Hello, was just wandering whether or not Juan Veron has made a telling contribution to the Argentina side in the Copa America? I have been unable to view the matches due to the time they are transmitted here in the UK. My viewing has been restricted to mear highlights. Would be grateful for any updates on the progress of one of my favourite players.

There's a very good website following Argentina's national side through the Copa in English... what's its name again...
From what the press have said (because I've had to collate my reports from the Argentine media due to the time they've been playing), Verón was fairly anonymous in the first match against the States reserves, and a bit better against Colombia. Aimar came on for him in the first match and is widely held to have made the difference after the break. In the third group match against Paraguay, Verón didn't feature because Basile fielded a virtual second eleven.
We'll probably get the chance to see him tomorrow, at a nice sensible time in the evening (only 12:45 am!), unless Basile makes him the victim of one of the 'changes' he's planning.

Thankyou Sam, I see I am not the only one hindered by the time difference. Lets just hope that 'Seba' displays his club form and proves one final point to the English press in particular, who misevaluated his impact in England.

I wouldn't say they misevaluated his impact. He was next to useless for United and Chelsea. What they got wrong was the reasons for that - quite simply, he arrived at United as a luxury signing and Sir then realised he didn't have an effing clue what kind of midfielder exactly Verón was...

Veron has looke decent in the Copa America so far but he's not the mnost important player for the Argentineans. I thought that Riquelme has been the outstanding Argentine in the Copa America and along with Robinho, has been the best player in the competition so far.

Sam, I disagree. I believe that overall Veron was misinterpreted at Manchester United. He was the scorer of numerous spectacular goals and constructed assists for his teammates on a regular basis. Undoubtedly he saved him best performances for Europe where he performed as one of the best in the world, but contary to popular belief Veron did often perform well in the premiership. Towards the latter stages of his time at United he was a victim of injury, but he did enough to convince Alex Ferguson to hurry him back from injury in time to face Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter final. One particular memory which i witnessed in person, was a Veron masterclass that destroyed Birmingham City, Veron scoring and dictating play for match in its entirety. The English press misjudged Veron, he had no impact at Chelsea due to minimal appearences, but at Manchester United he often performed well. This is emphasized in the fact that United season ticket holders held Veron in high regard, and were dissapointed to see him leave, if my memory of a United fanzine serves me correctly.

I remember that match against Birmingham. He was stunning in that. I also remember one pass in a CL match at Old Trafford, from midway inside our half, he hit a spinning volley about 60 yards up the pitch straight onto a sprinting-full-pelt Dwight Yorke's right foot. He is and always was class, but for me his place in our system never allowed him to show off what he was fully capable of, on a regular basis. I'll happily accept that 'next to useless' was a little bit harsh, though.

I dont personally believe Juan Veron as to prove anything to anyone. The Argentine has been a class player during his career, he just has simply been unfortunate in a stop start playing career. The only person Veron needs to prove himself to is indeed himself, and with the ability he as at his dispossal, he need not worry to much.

Why does that sum him up, that was a singular example, there are numerous other examples against top class opposition.
