Re: Managerial Merry-go-round

The lifespan of a manager in British football at the moment is a real cause for concern in my opinion. I know football is a cut throat business but these decisions are made by people who have not got a clue about football in general. I am talking about the Shinawatras, Abramovichs and Romanovs of this world. What is the point in having a manager/coach if the owner wants to pick the team? A manager in most cases has played the game as well as coached and has the relevant badges. What do the owners have in this instance to qualify them into thinking they know better. Again in some instances it is again to gain profit. Why would he want the high profile players to be dropped? The reason is in a marketing aspect it would damage profits and sales of merchandise for example. Yes they have input their money but as a business interest not as a supporter. A manager/coach should be left to pick the team not the owner/chairmen. Avram Grant was on a hiding to nothing really from day one. I think even if Chelsea had won the Champions League he would have been asked to leave as in my opinion he according to Abramovich was not a big enough name. Why give him a contract in that case, why not just an interim coach??
As regards Sven he has done a lot better than previous managers all be it with more money. Not sure Mark Hughes has made the right move though as the Thai owner will quite happily do the same to him and then his reputation as a good up and coming young manager will have been been ruined.
