The ESM Team of the Month section of World Soccer's magazine is something i usually avoid viewing. The most recent issue however at least consists of one player in the team of the month out of a so-called "big club". I read through the line-up consisting of Casillas (Real Madrid), Maicion (Inter), Evra (Man United), Ferdinand (Man United), Essien (Chelsea) then i let out a massive yawn. After my eyes dried following my massive yawn i read on and..... what? Tymoshchuk (Zenit) hooray i yelled. But my surprise then returned to boredom in an instant .... Ballack (Chelsea), Ronaldo (Man United), Ribery (Bayern), Toni (Bayern), Del Piero (Juventus).
I am not indicating that these players did not deserve their placings, but heaven forbid, do these journalists venture anywhere else but to see "big clubs" in action?? Sport-Express (Russia) voted recently for players from Chelsea, Bayern, Real Madrid, Inter, Roma, AC Milan and Juventus only. Gazzetta dello Sport (Italy) faired no better. There is a whole spectrum out there to explore, not just to make paid trips to the Bernabeu, Old Trafford and the San Siro for example then return to work to announce a most predictable team of the month... another massive yawn.
