Saturday 14 July 2007 Northern Ireland XI 0 Everton XI 2. Coleraine Sports Ground. Everton: Turner, Irving, Rodwell, Lescott, Valente, Van der Meyde, Carsley, Anderson de Silva, Molyneux (Harpur 85), Johnson (Agard 66), Vaughan (Connor 72).Unused Substitutes: Stubhaug, Akpan, Stewart. Goals: Vaughan 26, Agard 78. Referee: Mr. M Courtney Everton kicked off their pre-season campaign and enjoyed a a relatively comfortable run out against a Northern Ireland select 11 Andy Johnson back looked really sharp. He and his strike partner James Vaughan continued where he left off from last season up front. He hit the post after 10 minutes with a snap shot from the edge of the box. Another effort from AJ produced a magnificent point blank save from Taylor that led to a corner. From the resulting corner Taylor dropped the ball under a challenge from Vaughan, Johnson poked the ball goal wards but was blocked on the line, but James Vaughan on his 19th birthday was there to lash the ball home to give the Toffees a deservingly goal lead. Vaughan should have made it a brace when he headed wide from a superb cross from Nuno Valnte. The Toffeemen brought two youngsters Agard and Conner in the place of Johnson and Vaughan and it was the newcomers who put the game to bed, It was the neat Anderson de Silva who put Conner clear on the right. He hit a lovely ball for Keiran Agard to finish off from close range. The Toffeemen had one scare in the second half when the 16 year old Jack Rodwell cleared off the line after Turner was well beaten. Everton's youngsters gave the fans a look at the future of the club. With the likes of Irving, Rodwell, Molyneux, Connor and Agard, the future looks good. Saturday 14 July 2007 Bury 0 Everton XI 1.Gigg Lane. Everton: Ruddy, Hibbert, Stubbs, Dennehy, Boyle, Morrison, Neville, Vidarsson, Kissock, Jutkiewicz, Anichebe. Unused Substitutes: Jones, Densmore, Spencer, Hall, Downes, Barnett. Goal: Jutkiewicz 56. Attendance: 3,612. Referee: J Moss. This earlier kick off at Bury's Gigg Lane had more of youthful look to the line up. Hibbert, Neville, Stubbs and Anichebe where the senior players in the starting line up and all eleven players that started the game ended it. One really bright prospect by the name of John-Paul Kissock wasthe pick of the players in the game that did not really get going although the blues started off brightly with Victor Anichebe forcing the keeper to touch his powerful effort wide after just 70 seconds. The only goal of the game came from debutant Lucas Jutkiewicz heading what looked like a tame header over a the stranded keeper. Jutkiewicz who signed for the Blues from Swindon Town in march had an indifferent game and was guilty of missing a couple of his chances. Atrteta, beattie and Jagielka where not risked for either game after picking up slight knocks in training. As for Kissock who operated down the left side of midfield and signed proffessional forms recently, this lad has been spoken of very highly on Merseyside over the past couple of years and turned in several fine performance's for the reserve team last season. He possibly could become a familiar player this season or possibly the season after but one things for certain, everyone will know about JP before long. |

i watched the northern ireland game on setanta not very inspiring but i thought the forwards looked sharp and da silva looks ok but van de meyde still looks sluggish.how does beattie get injured in training so much?quality info by the way
Not sure why Beattie keeps getting injured, infact i would even go so far as to say i am not convinced he does get injured. He sadly seems out of place since he arrived on Merseyside and the sooner he goes the better. Middlesbrough are apparently tracking him. Pitty we could not have traded him in for Mark Viduka. All this coming from a man who has stood by Beattie believing he will come good but even i started losing patience with the former Southampton man. |
i was one of the biggest defenders of beattie in the past expecting him to come good after his injuries especially his toe injury(come on).i made the decision last season to stop going to goodison due to watching beattie standing on the half way line chewing with a beer belly(a tiny bit harsh) getting 40000 while i payed a small fortune for a season ticket.i dont mean to sound harsh but isnt mark viduka another overpriced overwaged overweight premier league forward! |
Mark Viduka went on a free, it would have just been his wages that would have been on the high side. Saying that, we would have got more out of the Aussie than Beattie's contribution of last season, that i am certain of. How did Beatts get on last season in terms of goalscoring?? |
he didnt get as many as viduka but i stand with what i said lets see how he does at newcastle?he certainly did well at the asia cup! |
Yes, it will be interesting how he gets on at St James Park, you never know Beattie may be on the opposing side in a big Boro v Newcastle North East derby!!! |
if beattie is playing for boro they are goin down!!!they probably are anyway!!regards newcastle there team is full of injury prone players eg viduka, owen, dyer, given, carr, babayaro, butt(if hes still there)big sam will need his 147 backroom staff to keep them fit! |

Big question mate. I am really hoping so but cant see it. When the Dutchman signed for the Blues i was so delighted. What has happened to my moment of elation of his signing to this date i cant explain. He has never looked fit since his arrival at Goodison and has been nicknamed in these neck of the woods as "Shandy" refering to his endless late nights he spends out in Liverpool City Centre. Whether he has been behaving himself of late, well i guess only time will tell and to see him consistantly performing well at Everton, that would be like a new signing for the club. Everyone knows Van Der Meyde has tons of ability, but once again only time will tell how he fares. |

Stephen, Looking at your squad list. Can you tell me anything about Lukas Jutkiewicz, i assume just another youth player not getting any games and Anderson Silva de França, is he the guy who was at Malaga on loan? And when did he make his one game for Everton? I'm also surprised he can get a work permit or maybe he has found a Italian Grandmother? |
Druryfire Looking at the Wiki, Everton did with Anderson exactly what Arsenal are doing with Carlos Vela. "Parked him" in Spain until he became eligible for a Spanish passport & no longer needs a work permit. |

Having been released by Southampton as a 14-year old, Jutkiewicz first rose to prominence in 2004, when he ended the Milk Cup tournament in Northern Ireland as top goalscorer - emulating the feat of Wayne Rooney who participated in the tournament four years earlier. At the age of 17 Jutkiewicz was handed his professional debut, coming on as a substitute in a 2-1 defeat at Swansea's Liberty Stadium in April 2006. A week later he was handed his first start, when he gave a hard-working performance in a 2-1 win at Scunthorpe. Eager to hold on to the young star, manager Iffy Onuora promised Jutkiewicz a professional deal, despite him still having a year of his scholarship remaining - but doubt was cast over the deal when Onuora was sacked and replaced with new boss Dennis Wise during May. When Jutkiewicz had no contact with Wise over the summer, he admitted he was "slightly concerned" about his deal - but any fears were dispelled when he signed a three year contract in July 2006. Jutkiewicz was patient for his introduction to the first team in 2006/2007 but finally made his first league start of the season in Swindon's 2-0 defeat to Mansfield. The next game, against top of the table Walsall, saw Jutkiewicz score his first senior goal to guide Swindon Town to an impressive victory. Jutkiewicz went on to score four more goals during the 06/07 season to help the club gain promotion to League 1. Everton FC In March 2007, Jutkiewicz signed a pre-contract agreement with Everton for a rumoured fee of £500,000 rising to £1,000,000 on appearances.[1] He joined up with the club for pre-season training in July 2007 and was handed the number 27 shirt - previously worn by Peter Clarke. On 13/7/07 Lukas rapped the game up for Everton agianst Bury scoring a goal on his debut. (Info from Wikipedia). As for Anderso Da Silva, badgerboy is correct on is knowledge on how Everton brought him through, that similar to Carlos Vela. Da Silva made an 88th minute appearance against Charlton Athletic in the 2-1 victory at Goodison Park. |

Everton Transfer Talk Everton have opened up talks with Switzerland international captain Johann Vogel over a possible move to Goodison Park. Anyone got any thoughts on the player in question?? |
regarding the squad lists isnt it amazing there is no number 1,2 or 3.personally i would like them to get vogel at least its another player i think he was at ac milan but didnt play to much but if hes captain of a a national side he must be ok and he is a free transfer could be a quality signing.i was goin to say the other day moyes always seems to come up with players no one is looking at. |
Thought Hibbert would have got the number two jersey this season but maybe Moyes as a right back lined up. Agree with you on Vogel, you can not lose on a free transfer and with international quality it could be a good piece of business and had that bit more experience to a very thin squad. We still need strengthening further to hopefully having a longer more successful challenge in Europe this term. |

The Great Stadium Debate Should Everton move to Kirkby? Yes or No?? Will Everton move at all? Yes or No?? For those unaware of the situation, Everton's proposed move to Kirkby, located just outside the border of Liverpool and situated in the Borough of Knowsley, is to say the least a very much talked about topic. Is it also correct to only allow 33,000 season ticket holders the right to vote on a stadium move?? Well for one, at least 70% of the 33,000 voters will not agree in a move to Kirkby, that is for sure. Only Everton fans blind folded, will know all this talk of a stadium move is all fictitious. Everton have attempted to re-build facilities at their training headquarters at Bellefield, West Derby, Liverpool. This was seven years ago if not longer infact, and still we wait on permission to improve facilities or to be given permission to re-locate to Halewood in the borough of Knowsley. Everton's Academy is based in Litherland, in the borough of Sefton. Can anyone less scepticle than me see a familiar pattern emerging?? Let me tell you all the truth, this talk of moving or staying as not progressed for many years now because Liverpool City Council do not "HOLD" Everton Football Club in high esteem. This is the reason why the club see's the need to move 7 miles down the East Lancs Road to build a new stadium in Knowsley, but this too will not happen. Why, because the funding is simply non-existant!! I for one knew the proposed Kings Dock move was all "pie in the sky" talk and referring to that particular move only council members could vote yes or no to go ahead with stadium proposal's. The strange thing about all this is all council members had restrictions in whether they could vote to give the go-ahead. To be eligible to vote they could not have have any connections with Everton Football Club, They could not have any connections with/or being a fan of the game and finally they could not have any connections with football as a whole. Straight away we are struggling. Then rumour after counter rumour was that there was not enough money funded for the kings dock regeneration. I will let you have your say now then continue with what i know will happen next. This will also contest the clubs reasoning as to why you have to pay to have your say. |

Didn't they announce they were about to do the 'Deal of the CENTURY' yesterday?
Oh yes, and it made me chuckle a touch. "Deal of the CENTURY"? What a Joke. |
That statement by Wynerss was embarrassing. Pitiful attempt to bribe the fans to say yes to a move. All this talk of no Plan B is tantamount to blackmail. The figures are vague too. Eg. £10M extra per season for Moyes. Where did he pluck that figure from? Kirkby came about because Everton couldn't afford to redevelop Goodison and because they couldn't afford to build a new stadium. They appproached Tesco chief executive and Everton fan Sir Terry Leahy to see if he could help out. He trawled around possible sites in Liverpool but found none that were suitable. He genuinely thinks that Kirkby represents the best deal for the club. The Tesco development will go ahead there even if Everton don't build a new stadium. Stephen, I think you might be wrong about the esteem in which Everton are held by Liverpool Council. It's the oldest business in the City and I don't think they (the majority of councillors at least) want to lose the club. The council always preferred a shared stadium, which is logical when you think about it. However, Liverpool were confident they could go it alone and dismissed the idea. Even if they hadn't Everton would not have had the money for their half of the costs, so it was always a dead duck anyway. I'm fairly confiden that the vote will be no, but I'm less confident that the club will abide by that vote. The one note of optimism I see is that Kenwright doesn't want to be seen as the man who took the club out of Liverpool. I think he originally viewed this move as his legacy, after which he could have sold out (at a profit), but having witnessed the level of opposition, he may be having second thoughts. Wyness, who's driving this, couldn't care less about 100+ years of history and is looking to leave his mark. |
I like your thoughts on this Barney, i do however still believe there is a problem with Liverpool City Council ence the reason why we are in talks with Knowsley Borough Council over this move. I agree with you that the Tesco development will go ahead regardless and the club will move there and what has not been mentioned which i am sure will happen, is that once Goodison Park is knocked to the ground, Tesco will build yet another Supermarket into the bargain so they get the best of both worlds. Then Everton Football Club will make huge profits in selling off pieces of the ground to fans. I have never been convinced over the fact that Goodison cannot be re-developed. If the club, the Council and others concerned were to seriously come up with a plan to restruture the ground, i am certain they would be able to. On a ground share with Liverpool, we know that would never have happened anyway and the Council knew this that is why they compomised the idea knowing full well the idea would go no further. |

Stadium Move (Continued) Keith Wyness got all Evertonians talking yesterday day with his comments about "Deal Of The Century" and "No Plan B". Liverpool council leader Warren Bradley has had his say. Knowsley Council have had their say. Dave Kelly, spokesman for KEIOC has had his say Here is what they've all had to say Keith says: "Emotions will be running very high on this issue and I understand that. As much as it would pain them to do it, fans will realise it is the only way forward to the future. The Evertonians are very reasonable. It is an amazing deal, the deal of the century. If the heart rules the head, we will never get an opportunity like this again. We will be left with very little debt at the end of it. The deal compares very favourably with other clubs building new stadiums. We will be getting a very nice stadium for a small amount of money. There is no other site that we have found that will involve the same level of contribution. The money to build the stadium is completely different to the money that goes on the team. This is bricks and mortar. But the extra revenue brought in from the new stadium will enable us to better compete on the pitch. It means that there will be more money flowing back to the manager, something in the region of £10m a year. There is a long way to go. If the fans vote in favour, which I am confident they will, we still have to go through the planning stages. There are potential for delays, but if everything goes smoothly, we could be ready by 2010. If we have to carry on at Goodison, there will be serious issues. Attendance numbers will go down and then revenue will go down and when that happens, you can’t compete. There is no Plan B. There is no other option." David Kelly says: "We believe that anybody who is a match-going Everton supporter should be able to take part in the ballot, simple as that. Supporters of the so-called People’s Club should not be disenfranchised. Bill Kenwright said he will put six or seven hours aside to discuss the ground move and the ballot, so I am shocked at their announcement.“We had assurances it would be the first of a series of meetings to discuss any fears and seek our input. Now they are saying they will enter into no further negotiations now they are in the ballot process. They gave us assurance there would be a consultation on this. Now the people of Kirkby are going to have a consultation but no ballot, and Everton supporters are going to have a ballot but no consultation." Knowsley Council spokesman says: "Everton’s move to ballot their fans marks a further phase in the consultation on the possibility of Kirkby becoming the new location for the football club. It is critical that the opinions of Everton fans are known alongside the views of our own community. Thousands of Kirkby residents and businesses have already had their say on how they want to see their town centre developed through a series of consultation events including a two-day community consultation drop in, which was followed up with a postal questionnaire to every household in Kirkby, neighbourhood meetings, meetings with businesses and a road show. We asked anyone with an interest in Kirkby to tell us what improvements they want to see made to their town centre. The results are being independently analysed and will be published in August.” Warren Bradley says: "The difficult thing for us has been the exclusivity period between Everton, Knowsley and Tesco which means we have not been able to have formal talks with them. I have spoken to Terry Leahy about the sites we have identified as possible new homes for Everton and the fact that there is no reason Tesco could not build their store there either. We have done more work on the sites and there are now more than two we have identified. If they ask ‘would you like a brand-new stadium with all the bells and whistles on’ then people will vote yes. But if it’s a fair question about whether fans want to leave Liverpool to go to Knowsley then I think the vast majority will answer no. I don’t see why Everton and Liverpool City Council cannot come forward with a stadium in this city. I wish we could get round the table and talk about it. What I’m not prepared to do is put a huge piece of land up and cost Liverpool council taxpayers £50m. That’s not the way forward. As an Evertonian, and leader of the council, I don’t want to see one of the city’s oldest businesses leaving. " Bluekipper" Transfer Talk As negotiations continue with Johann Vogel rumoured to be on the verge of signing a two year deal on a free transfer, Everton are currently also in talks with South African Steven Pienaar joining the club on a year long loan deal from Borussia Dortmund. Pienaar is looking to move to a Premiership club but prefers a club involved in European Competition's. Manchester City are also interested but they cannot offer Pienaar's preferences. |

Everton play Preston North End tonight in a friendly, not that Sky Sports News would inform viewers. Once again we have been omitted. They cant get nothing right them lot, the have even stated Andriy Voronin scored on his debut last night in Liverpool's 3-2 win over Werder Bremen, this despite Voronin playing at Crewe's Gresty Road on Saturday, tut, tut, tut. |

Munich 1860 U23 (1) Everton Reserves (3) Everton reserves have recorded a fine win in Austria. A young Toffees side came from behind to defeat Munich 1860 Under 23s. It was an entertaining game and the Germans scored first early on. Lukas Jutkiewicz thought he had levelled shortly after but his effort was ruled out for offside – a decision hotly disputed by the Everton contingent. However before the break the 18-year-old centre forward bagged a legitimate goal for Andy Holden’s team to level the score. Everton were then the much the better team in the second period and Bjarni Vidarsson deservedly put the Blues ahead. Jutkiewicz scored again before the end to make it three goals in two games for him and Andy Holden was delighted at the final outcome. “The lads applied themselves excellently,” he said. “It was a very good workout and we played some really good football. Lukas should, have had a hat-trick because I don’t think his first effort should have been disallowed but I am really happy with both performance and result.” |

as a lifelong evertonian i am against a move.you only have to look at the clubs who have moved to new stadiums and see that mostly the team suffers eg derby, sunderland, leicester, coventry, man city etc..even arsenal.at goodison everton have a slight advantage with the crowd and from what you read a lot of opposing players dont like playing there.if there were no obstructed views everton could possibly get 40000 guaranteed a week but from my experience the only games that sell out are liverpool and man u(if its not on tv)and the last game of the season.i would stay exactly were they are!get the team right first.man u have done the right thing, back in the early 90s they were on a par with everton but got the team right and gradually rebuilt old trafford and look at them now!you could put another tier on the parkend??? |

Pre -Season Friendly Preston North End 1 Everton 1. Whaley 12 ---------- Anichebe 80 Preston: Lonergan (Jarrett 46), Alexander (Sedgwick 46), Davidson (Hawley 46), Pugh (Chilvers 46), Mawene (Collins 46), Agyemang (Omerod 46), St Ledger (Hill 46), Whaley (Jones 46), Nicholls (Neal 46), Nowland (Anyinsah 46), Mellor (Henderson 46). Everton: Howard, Hibbert, Lescott, Stubbs (Jagielka 46), Valente, Arteta, van der Meyde, de Silva, Carsley (Neville 46), Vaughan (Beattie 15), Anichebe. Subs: Yobo, Turner. Referee: N.Swarbrick. Attendance: 8,004. It was a night of hugely contrasting fortunes for Everton's rising striking stars at Deepdale. Victor Anichebe opened his account for pre-season with a superb finish that earned Everton a 1-1 draw against the Lilywhites 10 minutes from time on the night Phil Jagielka made his first appearance in a Blue jersey. But the night was hugely overshadowed by the sight of fellow teenager James Vaughan being stretchered off after just 15 minutes with a shoulder injury that provided the Everton medical team with a great deal of cause for concern. It was a major blow for the striker, who celebrated his 19th birthday at the weekend. He had started brightly and was presented with a great chance after just two minutes - but he failed to connect with Joleon Lescott's head-down from close range - much to the relief of Preston keeper Andrew Lonergan. That was merely a pre-cursor for an eventful and unusually fiery opening to the contest - a contest that was all too short-lived for Vaughan. A seemingly innocuous collision with Youl Mawene resulted in the striker suffering a shoulder injury that forced to his early departure on a stretcher. A cruel blow for a striker who has been dogged by a succession of injury problems, it came just minutes after referee Swarbrick chose to caution Everton's Tony Hibbert following an angry set-to with former Liverpool striker Neil Mellor, who also received stern words from the match official. All the drama meant that the opening goal of the game was merely a side-issue. It was netted by the home side, and came in the 12th minute from Simon Whaley. He produced a sweet curling shot from the edge of the box that just beat the dive of Tim Howard. James Beattie, having entered the fray in place of Vaughan, produced his first shot on goal. A bold volleyed effort from distance, it is the kind of shot Beattie has netted from in the past. On this occasion, though, it drifted wide of the target. Nevertheless, it was an indication of the confidence flowing through a player who looks lean and eager to impress this pre-season. Mellor, clearly savouring facing the Toffees, robbed Nuno Valente on the edge of the box in the 36th minute and produced a fierce drive that forced Howard into a good finger-tip save. Preston boss Paul Simpson introduced an entirely different XI in the second period, but they were equally committed. And inside the opening five minutes a deflected Brett Ormerod effort cannoned back off the underside of the crossbar. By that stage of proceedings summer signing Phil Jagielka had entered the fray for Everton - his first appearance since his arrival from Sheffield United. Beattie produced a great volley on the turn in the 52nd minute that forced Lonergan into action. Jagielka, who has made no secret of his versatility, is best known for playing in more defensive roles. But on 55 minutes he tested the Preston keeper with a header from an Arteta corner. It was a free-flowing game and minutes later Ormerod forced Tim Howard into a good, brave stop low at the striker's feet. Wayne Henderson had to do well to deny Victor Anichebe after the striker turned smartly to escape the attentions of Chris Sedgwick midway through the second period. Everton were certainly causing plenty of problems for the home side - but the goal was proving elusive. With 17 minutes of the half left to play Preston's Chris Sedgwick produced a teasing low drive that deflected narrowly wide of Howard's upright. The Blues finally got on the scoresheet 10 minutes from time - and what a good goal it was. A long ball was snapped up by the striker, who held off two challenges as he surged into the area and produced a deft finish to the delight of the travelling fans behind the goal. It took a fine stop from Henderson to deny Phil Neville minutes later. It was an uncharacteristic right-footed half-volley from 20 yards that was flying towards the top corner from the England international. There were further chances as Everton did their utmost in the closing stages to secure victory but Preston held firm. |

In agreement with you regarding getting the playing side right first. As far of all this Stadium move goes, it is really annoying me so much and we Everton fans have suffered long enough after one promise after another turns out to be a total cover-up. I love my club as much as the next man but until we get the boardroom staff currently at the club removed, this great club will continue to deteriorate. We now should all be looking forward to the start of a new campaign and i am, but there is always the underlying problem at the club of who is pulling the strings. Since John Moores sad departure from the club, the Blues have had a succession of who-ray-henry's running things looking for a quick buck. Peter Johnson almost destroyed Everton and was only interested in expanding his own Hamper company across the Mersey rather than having Everton FC as his main priority. Johnson was also heavily passionate with Tranmere Rovers at the time and bled £4.3 million out of his own Everton team under his reign as chairman for Goalkeeper Steve Simonsen for the Birkenhaed club. Now, under Kenwright we have a bigger clown who claims to be an Evertonian but simply is in this business for his own theatre productions. Paul Gregg, one of Kenwright's side kicks who now as parted company with the club "thankfully" owned many theatres in London and strangely enough left the club soon after the King's Dock proposal fell through. There is much more to say on this matter but i will call it a night for now but i will finish on stating that the biggest problem is Liverpool City Council and the one vision they have for a certain team called Liverpool FC, Fact, Fact and guess what a "FACT" again. Say no to this move, anyone agreeing with a move will be contributing to our own clubs downfall, also giving Liverpool City Council what they crave for, a one City Club "Liverpool". |

In terms of moving stadium, my main sadness is that decades (often over a century) of history is wiped out in one go and when a club leaves the city it belongs to, then what on Earth, other than the sheer name of the club, binds it to its new home? When Coventry moved, we moved within the city limits, albeit out of the city centre, but when we began the move, we were in the premiership and had plans for a 40000 seater venue with all manner of things (like approx 20000 empty seats), but by the time we made the move, we had an identikit stadium we no longer owned...one we are yet to fill, which never surprised me. In terms of whether the football suffered, i'd say it didn't as we were pretty awful before. In Everton's case, is there really a drastic need to move? Or is it just a pleasant distraction and a touch of wanting to still be seen as a 'big club'? And as for moving out of the city? For a town with such footballing pride as Liverpool, to see that happen would be criminal. |

Quote: I have to be honest, the match report is from Evertonfc.com that i pasted and copied. When i have got time on my hands i will be writing my own reports. You are correct in Beattie staying now due to Vaughan's injury, he may have stayed anyhow as Moyes still rates him. Anichebe will more than likely be a big star but us Evertonian's should tread carefully on that particular subject, remember Stuart Barlow, Michael Branch and Danny Cadamarteri. Then when we found a real star in Wayne Rooney he departed for Manchester United which i wont go into. Vaughan another with a bright, bright future so to has John-Paul Kissock. |

The whole cover up that no one seems to pick up on in the city of Liverpool is that the City Council has no intentions whatsoever of funding a stadium move for Everton Football Club. I can tell you right now, if Liverpool FC put in a bid to develop a stadium at the Kings Dock at the time when we looked for a possible move there, that stadium would now have been built and already would have been in use. This City has unfortunately become a one club city over the past five/six years, to Liverpool City Council at least as they can bring in more revenue for the fat cats of the area much more the Everton will be able to. Lets face it, it did not take long for permission for the new Anfield on Stanley Park to be granted. EFC has for years now, i think since 1994, have put in plans to expand or improve training facilities at our current Bellefield training ground in West Derby, we still await permission and have indeed since then, the club as looked to re-locate the training ground to Halewood, Knowsley, still no joy. The only joy we have had was that we built a new accademy but outside of the City Boundaries in Litherland, Borough of Sefton. Why no one can see the problems and the out and out £££ signs that Liverpool City Council see and their one sided vision for one clubs development in LFC, is totally beyhond me. As Everton were the second club on Merseyside, "the first being Bootle FC although they faded rapidly after the formation of St Domingo's which become Everton FC" we should stay put, get shut of Kenwright and all his crew that think more of theatre productions than they do of this great club, and to get owners in who really have the clubs interests at heart. The fans of this club have been spun a yarn for years now and a majority seems not to have cottoned on to this all mighty swindle. One brief example going totally off the subject of a stadium move. Five years ago Everton attempted to sign Sean Davies from Fulham for £5 million during the pre-season, Davies failed the medical but the club announced they would refresh the bid for him in the opening of the January transfer window. Once that opened, the club could not afford him, this despite the average attendances being 34,000 at the time with no money spent on players. Where did all this money go you may ask, well i will tell you, to Paul Gregg and his Theatre Investments in London and to fund Mr Kenwrights pantomimes at the Empire Theatre. This club deep down is a mess and is going no where financially. Thank goodness for David Moyes and the players at the club. |

The loss of Vaughan is a huge blow. Not just losing him, who I fancied to have a breakthrough season, but also because it means we'll either keep Beattie or spend some of our limited transfer funds on someone like Alan Smith. I'm intrigued by the prospect of signing Pienaar. Two to three years ago he was quite highly rated, but after a poor season in Germany it looks like we'll get him on a one-year loan, with a view to a permanent deal next year for just £2m. When you consider that Wigan spent £5.3m on Koumas, Birmingham £6m (yes £6m!!!) on Mido, I think Moyes is doing pretty well in the market. |
Losing Vaughan for the first month of the season is a blow for the club but this may just be the kick up the behind that Beattie has needed. Beattie was certainly not favourite of being involved in the starting line-up on the opening day of the season, now he just has to fight with Anichebe to partner AJ up front. However, I still cant help feeling that Beattie will not grasp this opportunity with both hands when he has failed to shine when given previous opportunities, i guess only time will tell. On the year-long-loan signing of Pienaar, which is a done deal providing he is granted a work permit, you are right to be intrigued and it is an exceptional piece of business, much in the same way when Moyes brought in Manuel Fernandez on loan, it is a real shame we could not secure his services on a permanant basis. Vogel also still looks certain to join Everton if he can sort out a personal cash argument with Real Betis. These incoming transfers still need to be continued from now to the start of the new campaign as strength in depth is key even more so now, that we have an extra competition to play in and we really need to make a better fist of a European challenge than our performances in Europe of two years ago. |

moyes seems to pick a rabbit out of the hat with his transfers!going by what ive heard pienaar looks like a steal!lets hope they can sort out the vogel situation soon as another club might come in and as for the price of mido my sides have actually split with laughing that much! |

Saturday 21 July 2007 Real Salt Lake 2 Everton 0.(Rice-Eccles Stadium). Talley 28 Findley 29 Bookings: Kipre ----- Neville Referee: H.Tica Attendance: 12,221. Real Salt Lake: Rimando (Reynish 46), Besagno (Watson 46), Torres (Kotschau 46), Wingert (Lancos 46), Kipre (Forko46), Beckerman (Jimenez 61), Talley (Watson 61), Williams (Harris 61), Sturgis (Cutler 61), Eskandarian (Kirby 66) Findley (Brown 46). Unused Substitute: Curfman. Everton: Howard, Jagielka, Yobo, Stubbs (Lescott 58), Valente (Hibbert 58), Osman, Carsley (Anichebe 58), Neville, Arteta (Anderson De Silva 58), Beattie, Johnson. Everton have lost their only game of the 2007 US tour, falling to a 2-0 defeat against Real Salt Lake. The Blues suffered the reverse at the Rice Eccles Stadium following two days of intensive high altitude training in Utah. Everton produced some neat moves in the opening period but were guilty of conceding two disappointing goals in the space of a minute midway through the opening period. The opener came in the 28th minute, skipper Carey Talley capitalising on a pass from Alecko Eskandarian. Everton had only just come to terms with that setback when the home side doubled their lead. Andy Williams was the provider on this occasion, teeing up Robbie Findley for a goal that sent the home fans wild. The ball found its way to the edge of the box where Leon Osman fed it back in to James Beattie. The striker side-footed the shot goalwards but it was saved by Rimando. Salt Lake were causing problems themselves though - and on 55 minutes sub Kyle Brown found space down the inside right and fired in a decent effort that Howard did really well to parry. Everton made what changes they could early in the second period, whilst the home side switched their playing contingent around considerably. Sub Chris Lancos missed a glorious chance with a backpost header, whilst the combination of Howard's safe hands and Joleon Lescott's imposing frame twice denied Salt Lake during one scarey moment in the 75th minute. Beattie rifled over midway through the half and Victor Anichebe was furious with referee Tica on 72 minutes when his calls were a penalty fell on deaf ears. A caution for Phil Neville for an innoccuous challenge followed by a yellow card 10 minutes later for a scything challenge from Dustin Kirby underlined how seriously this game was being taken in this part of the world. Beattie was proving the biggest threat for the Blues' squad - and he was inches away from connecting to a low, drilled cross from the right by Anderson de Silva six minutes from time. But it seemed the Toffees were destined for a goalless evening in their one game of the 2007 US tour. Match Report from Evertonfc.com |

These are the latest images of Everton's proposed new stadium in Kikby. Do you like what you see because i know i dont, it is an eyesore. This is a "Deal of the Century" ha, what a joke. Keep Everton in the city and dont let Liverpool City Council get their wish of making it a "one club city". POWER TO THE PEOPLES CLUB.

There must be a lot of anxiety in the blue half of Merseyside at the moment. What are the alternatives to the new stadium? Is staying at Goodison a serious option? |
There is definately a chance we could rebuild on the site we currently have but obviously the people behind the club and Liverpool City Council, have never heard of underground parking etc etc. Goodison is said to be land-locked and maybe it is on the Goodison Road side (Main Stand) but the Bullens Road end could be extended if not outwards, then upwards. The Gwladys Street End could also be built upwards but nobody seems to have the vision to take time to weigh things up and seem just to be looking for options on the cheap. |

bad result for everton especially with a strong side out!liverpool city council have finally started saying they want everton to stay in the boundaries and that they have 5 options for sites including redeveloping goodison(my choice)!havent seen any plans yet?? |
Redevoloping Goodison Park is also my opinion and also the majority of most Evertonians. Building say three tiers on both the Gwladys street and the Bullens road would add an extra 6,000 to the Gwladys Street and a further 12,000 to the Bullens taking the stadium capacity to around 64,000. Re-building the main stand taking out the bollards out for a cantalever stand would then be the next on the agenda. Five seperate sites being mentioned in the city however is not washing with me as when we were in talks of the Kings Dock proposal, five sites were then mentioned and we have never witnessed any plans or real details of the actual sites. (not sure i have spelt cantalever correctly .)

Bad result against Real Salt Lake, you are correct but i suppose you can only look at the positives in pre-season. Team bonding and maintaining fitness for the new campaign is key and to avoid injuries being repeated like James Vaughan's must be running through David Moyes' mind. Also, if you are going to suffer defeat, i feel it is best to suffer these upsets before the big kick off giving the team time to put things right. Saying that, it does not improve confidence if the club suffers so many pre-season defeats or poor performance's and can affect the team morale when it really matters. |

New Stadium voting system Before i begin on this topic, i would really appreciate all world soccer forum members to respond with a yes or no in response to my question or go into more detail as i am interested in opinions. Now although this subject is regarding Everton, i would like you imagine this is your club/s we are discussing here. The Question: Is it right that only season ticket holders have the rights to vote on a ground move??? On a personal note, i have held nine season tickets for my club and once travelled to many away games. Because i now do not have the luxury of getting many saturday's and sunday's off work, i cant get to many games, so does that give me any less right to vote also? If your club had similar goings on to that at Everton Football Club and you we unable to attend a lot of games due to work comitments etc, would you feel aggrieved by having your voice taken away from you? I am as big an Evertonian as the next man/woman, no more, no less and to see my beloved club treating its fans in the way they are currently doing saddens me greatly. As it stands, you seemingly only have a voice as an Everton fan but you must "pay to have your say". Please give me your thoughts on this, i would very much appreciate your opinions. |

That'd be 'cantilever' ![]() For a brand new stadium, it's hardly inspiring in the same sense that Arsenal and the Pool's new ones are / will be (although I personally find them a tad uninspiring these days...someone do something original!). It's a box with open corners a la Rangers / Milwall. Hardly a flagship design. The 'People's Club' moniker on the side is rather amusing though, given the vast opposition to moving! |

On the face of it, it is not 'fair' that only season ticket holders get to vote re the ground. But, to throw a spanner in the works, how else could you prove you were a 'true' Everton fan? If they just opened it up as a free ballot wouldn't there be a strong chance that the vote would get sabotaged by some non-Everton fan wags (old meaning of wags, not Colleen and her crowd of morons )?I am just posing questions, but I suspect that this is the main reason why the vote is for Season Ticket holders only. I very much sympathise for other fans who feel very strongly about the issue and want their say, afterall its not often fans get a say on anything these days (have they ever?), but logistically in my mind I can't think of any other way of doing it while still keeping the vote a reliable reflection of the Everton fans views. |
True. What baffles me about it all is that Kenwright and his clowns want to move to Kirkby but i can guarantee over 70% of the current season ticket holders will vote no to the move. You would have thought they would have opened a broader vote, an open ballot like you have suggested. This way, there would have been a greater chance for the voting to be closer although the majority would still vote no. Why the club cant build the ground upwards is beyond me but then Kenwright wants all the money he can get to put into his theatre productions. |
I tend to agree with righteous1 on this...although there are problems. If Everton sell out their season ticket allocation each year then there are several fans out there who want, but cannot get, a season ticket. Also, there may well be some who are, for example, out of the country for a year and so haven't renewed. They may have held a season ticket for the last 20 years, but as they don't posess a current one, cannot vote. Why not invite anyone who has held a season ticket in the last 10 years? Or maybe those who have held a season ticket at least twice in the last 10 years? |
Another valid point, however the problem lies in the fact that Everton have around 33,000 season ticket holders leaving just under 10,000 supporters who buy tickets at the box office, some more regular than others. Fans then should be able to vote if they can produce ticket stubs. Also fans that go to no games during a season but contribute to the clubs finances by purchasing expensive club merchandise, why are they not allowed to vote. I can understand complications may set in here but this club of mine are refusing true fans the right to have a say in the clubs future, and that is simply unacceptable. |

it is best to get those sort of results out of the way but to lose against a team like that is worrying and not scoring either with a very strong line up. |

no,i dont think it is right that just season ticket holders get a vote.if everton could be arsed they could look at their database of previous season ticket holders going back several years, they could get names from the box office when fans have paid by credit cards etc..they could have a voting system in the club shop when fans buy items!they could ballot supporters clubs!they could look at fans who have bought items online from the club shop?its not hard is it? |
i guess they would have to do one stand every two years, the first one for me would be to put an extra tier on the park end which im surprised they didnt do in the first place.if you look back on clips from the premiership around 1994ish most grounds looked like building sites so why not now? |

On the defeat against Real Salt Lake, you are quite right by saying the result was so poor but results dont give an accurate measure of the club in terms of form. If you can think back to 2002, we won every single pre-season friendly including a 5-0 victory at Preston's Deepdale. We went on to have an apalling start to the new campaign. On the other hand, as i have stated, confidence is key to build on for the forthcoming season. The one thing i have noticed in the last four or five years with Everton, and this is no offence to anyone mentioned herein, but the blues do not play enough testing pre-season opponents unlike say the likes of Liverpool who tend to play seasoned top flight teams from Europe in particular. We play Preston each year, and also Bury for the last two season's playing one game at Goodison against good opponents, this season's visitors being Werder Bremen although we have a tricky trip to Crystal Palace. On the re-construction of Goodison, i guess you are correct in terms that we would probably have to build each stand in turn but not every two years. On the other hand, is it not possible to build the stadium upwards by building the new stand during the season without the capacity throughout the season being affected too much, i mean Manchester United's Old Trafford ground done a similar thing by extending the stadiums capacity during an active season. Cant complain on your thoughts about the club's disgraceful voting system on the stadium move to Kirkby. In my opinion Hate is a very strong word and a word a very rarely use but the word hate is my feelings towards the whole Everton board and as been for many a long year. I adore the team and the manager, but i could not care less about Kenwright, Wyness etc etc, in much the same way that they feel about this club. We have been controversially been labeled the Peoples Club since David Moyes arrival on Merseyside, this maybe true or maybe totally fictitious, but certainly the men responsible for running the club certainly are not people, just merely robots programmed into seeking what profits they can make out of the club to fund there own little enterprises. If the proposed move to Kirkby goes ahead, then the Tesco Supermarket will be built in a very close vicinity to the stadium along with a hotel complex. Everton FC has announced that if all this goes ahead, then Tesco would not be building a store on the Goodison Park site. They must think we were born yesterday, and just say Tesco did not build a new store in Walton, then a member of their partnership would build some sort of profitable site. |

Thanks for that Barney, an interesting read. However my feelings have not changed. I know Liverpool City Council are not to keen on funding Everton Football Club and i will tell you why. If you have visited Liverpool City Centre recently, you would have noticed all the construction works going on in time for Liverpool 08 "European Capital of Culture". Many millions of eu money and funding by Liverpool City Council have been put together to complete the agenda of improving the City Centre. Now if you are also in the City Centre on match days when Liverpool are at home, you would also notice a great number of tourists who will visit the city and then attend the game. That does not happen when Everton play at home. What i am trying to say here is that, it is far more profitable to build a new stadium in the city for LFC rather than Everton. With Liverpool City Council funding both LFC and the redevelopment of the City Centre, there simply is no money to fund the blues new stadium proposal. What is correct is that we have missed the boat but realistcally no firm offers have ever been offered to Everton. Dont get me wrong, this not alll about the lack of funding from the council or from other sources, the major problem lies at the feet of the money grabbers we have at the club at this time. They are the real problem as much as they will tell you they have the clubs interests at heart. |

Although it will never happen, what are your thoughts on a shared stadium? It's years since I lived in Liverpool, and since being away it's always struck me as the ideal solution for both clubs. Apparently, the last time it was suggesetd (about 15 years back) Everton turned it down. If I still lived in the city I'd probably feel differently, but from a distance, it jus |
