Any idea's on points systems guys? I was thinking of adding a selection of players to choose from, where you pick one. If it is a defender and he scores, you get 3 points for each goal he scores. If it is a midfielder it would be two points for each goal scored and 1 point for a striker. What do you all think about introducing this to the game? The points system is still in delevopment at the minute so any idea's would be more than appreciated.

i will certainly join in. with the points i would have 1 for a home win,1 for an away win and 1 for a draw.as for the correct score i would have 3 points.if you want to do the players how about 1 goalkeeper with points for a clean sheet,1 defender with points for a clean sheet and to score,1 midfielder with points to score and one attacker with points to score.i would class ronaldo and kaka as midfielders?

My proposals for the points system are as folows:-

General Predictions (90 minutes only,Extra time does not count)
1 Point for Home win.
1 Point for Away win.
2 Points for a draw.
5 Bonus Points for correct scoreline.

Pick only one Outfield Player from anyone of the sides involved in the given evening.

Chosen Player Points system (90 minutes only, extra time does not count)
1 point for every minute your chosen player plays in.

Points gained for Goals scored by your chosen player (90 mins only, Penalty shoot-outs do not count):-
3 points for each goal a Defender scores.
2 points for each goal a Midfielder scores.
1 point for each goal a Striker scores.

Discipline (90 minutes only, extra time does not count)
- 5 points If Chosen player recieves a yellow card
- 10 points if chosen player recieves a red card
(no more than a 15 point penalty for a player recieving yellow, a second yellow followed by red)

Information of Minutes played by the chosen player, and what Position the chosen player is registered in will be taken from the uefa.com official website and no other source. Entries for your chosen player will have to come from each individual once knowing the team news, so allowing the predictions to be posted around 10 minutes before kick off.

Any thoughts on this scoring system folks?

Far too many points for a correct scoreline. Correct scorelines are often more luck than judgment. Even when they're not they're never worth 5x the points of getting the right outcome.

2 pts for a correct outcome (including draws) & just 1 bonus point for the correct score.

I'm also not sure I personally see the need for the "fantasy football" element. I'd keep it to predicticing match outcomes only.

That said, I probably wont be taking part in these new games as I already do my CL & UEFA Cup predictions on another forum (with a points system I like . Plus I do my "fantasy football" on UEFA.com - when I can be bothered to get round to changing my team each week.

Edit: I've just noticed something even more ludicrous. 1 point per minute played by your chosen player? So if your player - whether it be Kaka, Fabregas, Messi etc. gets injured and has to go off at half-time you're 45 points down on everyone else. Even if you predict all 8 last 16 games 100% right that's just 40 points. You could probably be brilliant all the way through the competition & come last because your player got sent-off or kicked off the pitch ten minutes into the final.

I will be going by uefa.com and their squad lists. Kaka on their site is an attacker. If i stick to uefa's official site, there could be no queries of who plays where, minutes played etc.

Thanks for the input badgerboy. I may lower the 5 point bonus, that said, i still wont tempt you into entering which is fair enough as you are involved elsewhere. The points system is still under construction so nothing is set in stone and i have a month to make a final decision. Cheers again mate.

Chosen Player Points system (90 minutes only, extra time does not count)
1 point for every minute your chosen player plays in.
So that means if our player plays 90 minutes, we get 90 points ? Well, then it will be high on numbers, it will be more difficult to count.
I think you may put Assist bonus for a player as well, Assist is as important as a goal i think.

Squad lists and points system to follow shortly. Thanks to those who came up with the ideas etc. All will be more than welcome to join the competition which is a taster in preperation for next season's tournament, If successful that is. A Euro 2008 competition will also be up and running in the summer to pass away those months in readiness for the start of the new league campaign. Hope many of you join in this comp for a bit of interest. All the best, ste.

3 Bonus Points for correct scoreline.

Each Matchday, Pick Four Players, 1 Goalkeeper, 1 Defender, 1 Midfielder and 1 Striker from as many clubs as you wish. For example, if you wished to pick Cech, Terry, Joe Cole and Drogba from Chelsea then so be it, however you have freedom to choose singular players from any team/s on the given matchday fixture list.

Points gained for Goals scored/conceded by your chosen players (90 mins only, Penalty shoot-outs do not count):-
Goalkeeper: 2 points for a clean sheet,
-1 point for each goal conceded.
Defender: 3 points for each goal scored for his team,
-1 point for every own goal conceded
Midfielder: 2 points for each goal scored for his team,
-1 point for every own goal conceded.
Striker: 1 point for each goal scored for his team,
-1 point for every own goal conceded.
All players: 10 additional bonus points for a hat-trick to be scored for his team.

Discipline (90 minutes only, extra time does not count)
- 5 points If any Chosen player receives a yellow card
- 10 points if any chosen player receives a red card
(no more than a 15 point penalty total for a each player receiving yellow, a second yellow followed by red).

Note: How each individual chooses his or her players depends on waiting for official confirmed team news or assuming your chosen players will start the games, however if a player of your choice does not make an appearance, then obviously no points can be scored so choose carefully. Also take note that players positions are taken from uefa.com and there squad listings. Check out for updates on the squad rota's or omissions due to a lack of updated information.
