Nice one mate for the boost for Everton. Just on thing i must tell you, me Stephen Woodside is a life-long blue like all my family, with the exception of my brother George who swayed towards the reds just to be different. Go Leverkusen, go Nihat . Good luck with all your predictions lad.

Look at the scores: 5-1, 5-1, 6-1. Well, a team reaches to this round after the group stage and gets humiliated. I think only 1st and 2nd places teams should qualify from the groups. It is not a big deal to be 3rd in a 5 team group. And you see the results now, they simply can not match the quality of their opponents.

Tell that to Zenit, Bolton & Anderlecht...
Actually more 3rds through to the next round than 2nds - only Tottenham & Fiorentina. Without checking the stats I'd say that was pretty unusual as a fair proportion of CL dropouts tend to flop.
That aside I agree with you about "top two" only progressing. That will be the case from 2009-10 - although it will be from groups of 4 rather than 5.

If they only take 2 teams from each country champions` league again, 1 day.. If it is possible... We will see a lot more quality in the UEFA CUP. For now UEFA CUP doesn`t grab my attention, unless one of my favorite teams play in it or a prediction competition about it, is going on

What a massive let down throughout the whole evening. From the poor Referee to the suspect commentary, nothing tops the sluggish, nervous, lacklustre display shown from Everton. Only Tim Howard done himself proud in a game that produced nothing in terms of excitment for the blues. It still is affectively only half time, however, i feel that we may just have bitten the dust in this competition. Saying that, me having a positive attitude in life, Moyes men still are not totally out of it. The tactics Everton set for the second leg will be key, and patience is required rather than throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the Italians looking for an early breakthrough, that tactic will only expose Everton's defence. It is an interesting situation ahead.
