Southampton appointments - going continental?
      #11864 - 30/05/2008 16:40

As a Saints fan i would appreciate input about the commitment to "Total football" from new Manager Jan Poortvliet. Can such an approach work with Southampton or anywhere in England as a concept regardless of club? Thoughts welcome.

Well you obviously need players capable of playing football in the way you want the team to play.

And probably his defintion of "total football" shouldn't be taken too literally.

But teams like West Brom & Doncaster have shown this season that it's possible to be successful in their respective divisions playing football that is "easy on the eye". And that's what I'd expect Southampton to try to emulate.
