I think this has been a tournament to savour, thus far at least, i only just wish the so-called "Big Teams" in domestic league football would falter much in the same as the German's, Italians and French are currently doing. Mention of Holland's and Portugal's vulnerability in defence may be true to an extent, but exceeding their weaknesses much more are the lacklustre all round performances of Italy, Germany and France. It makes a refreshing change to see what many would consider outsiders, doing well in Switzerland and Austria, nations such as Turkey and Croatia for instance, rather than the tiresome norm of seeing a Final consisting of France, Italy or Germany. Of course any of these teams could still make it to Vienna on June 29, but for the good of the game, it would be nice to see different opposition.

Quote:

La Marseillaise is far superior to the Dutch anthem, with its bizarre references to the King of Spain.

'God save the King/Queen' used to have its bizarre references to other nations too.

"Around 1745, anti-Jacobite sentiment was captured in a fourth verse, with a prayer for the success of George Wade's army then assembling at Newcastle. These words attained some short-term popularity, although they did not appear in published versions:

Lord, grant that Marshal Wade,
May by thy mighty aid,
Victory bring.
May he sedition hush and like a torrent rush,
Rebellious Scots to crush,
God save the King."
