Cars arrives at Birmingham
So Lee Carsley has finally departed Goodison Park after several years of speculation linking him with a move to pastures new. Although the season has just ended, David Moyes' already small squad is further depleted and with Andy Van Der Meyde, Thomas Gravesen, Stefan Wessels leaving and Manuel Fernandes possibly ending his unsuccessful loan spell, this squad needs to build substantially in the summer. Failure to do so will only result in repetitive seasons year in, year out. Panic should not set in just yet as we are only in mid-may, however, should Moyes fail to increase the squad numbers by plus 5 or 6 come August, then expect his squad to tire with a few months left of the campaign. Carsley has been a fantastic servant at the club, all too often being the unsung hero in the famous royal blue, and i for one wish him all the best for Brum and for the remainder of his career. Although i remain surprised he has left Everton with the toffees playing UEFA Cup football next term, i am not shocked over his departure. Now Moyes needs to replace Cars during what may be an interesting summer of transfer activity.

Council Refuse Planning Permission For Bellefield
Everton's plan to redevelop their Bellefield training ground has been refused by Liverpool City Councillors. The profits from the scheme were due to go towards the plans to build a new stadium in Kirkby. Everton FC and developer David Wilson Homes want to build 74 luxury homes on their former training ground in West Derby. The old training ground has been redundant since the club moved to its new training ground at Finch Farm in Halewood. Everton plan to appeal.
Ian Ross Everton's PR Spokesperson says: "We are bitterly disappointed at this outcome, which came despite the fact experts told the council to give it the green light. We believe this was politically motivated and it was an outrageous decision.
Polictically motivated! your joking are'nt you? It amazes me why Everton Football Club continue to bother in planning anything located in Liverpool, the City Council have made it quite clear they have no room for two clubs in the city. Why would they wish to grant Everton an opportunity to earn profits? As footballing cities go, Liverpool has to be amongst the most one sided, one visioned politically biased governments towards a neighbouring rival. What a great feeling it would be if Everton were to win silverware and the red half of a depleted city won nothing. I would be first to stick two fingers up to those prawn sandwich eating politicians and inpolitely tell them we dont need your help.
PS.. Sorry for breaking away from the Euro 2008 topics.

David Moyes has decided not to pursue his interest in bringing in Sporting Lisbon keeper Vladimir Stojkovic on a more permanent basis after a brief loan spell. Come on Moysey, get your check book out and make some signings.

No Andy Johnson in the squad again so it looks almost certain he wont be an Everton player for much longer. Still no transfer activity at Goodison but i am sure we will hear some good news very soon. With Arteta limping off with a slight knock and Van der Meyde departing the field with a more lengthy looking injury, along with the injuries we currently have, it emphasises that we really lack in squad depth and new faces are needed very soon. On a plus point, Jose Baxter is coming on in leaps and bounds and scored a terrific goal against the Forest, so too is other youngsters in Dan Gosling and Jack Rodwell.

It has been very frustrating. Last season, i opened a thread entitled "Moyes slow in the transfer market". This season i should re-phrase that to Moyes even slower in the transfer market. As much as i admire Moyes greatly, he has made up a recent excuse over his failure to bring in new faces, blaming it on third party complications. Only one other team in the Premier League have failed to add to their squad during the summer, that being Manchester United who already are strong so that wont affect them whatsoever. It therefore begs the question why Moyes has failed to add to a thin squad when every other club seem to have no problems. Apparently, Everton are about to open talks with 6'8" striker Nikola Zigic from Valencia, but we have had so many false dawns this summer. I have got to the stage now that if we sign someone, we sign someone but i am not holding my breath.

Jacobsen first through the summer door
Everton are on the verge of completing their first signing of the summer after agreeing a deal for Denmark full-back Lars Christian Jacobsen. The 28-year-old is available on a free transfer and has agreed a one-year deal at Goodison Park, subject to a medical. Jacobsen spent last season with German side FC Nuremberg. His arrival will provide a welcome boost for manager David Moyes, who has been frustrated in his attempts to add to his injury-hit squad this summer. Moyes missed out on signing Juventus midfielder Tiago on loan and Jacobsen will provide cover for the injured Tony Hibbert, who is expected to be out for at least six weeks after undergoing knee surgery. Right-sided defender Jacobsen was set to undergo a medical on Monday at the club's training ground, with a deal expected to be officially confirmed on Tuesday. He began his career at Danish side Odense in 1996 before moving to the Bundesliga for the first time with SV Hamburg. Before his stint with Nuremberg, Jacobsen returned to his home country for a three-year spell with FC Copenhagen, helping them to three Danish Superliga titles.
