In his team of the tournament, Gavin Hamilton named Hamit Altintop at right-back. You're joking, right? He was regularly caught out of position on the right flank of Turkey's defence. He did impress when switched to central midfield in the knockout stages, but he certainly wasn't the best right-back in the competition.

He`s been picked up to UEFA`s Euro 2008 team as well. You are right actually, maybe he didn`t impress in right back position but he started more games in right back position and he played very well in the whole tournament so they wrote him to right back. And i can`t remember if any right back player assisted 3 times in a game ( Turkey vs Czech Republic 3-2 ) in Euro 2008 like Hamit did.

Yes, but UEFA selected him in midfield, which confirms my opinion of his weakness at right-back!

In the uefa's squad, i think Ramos should've been in the right back position.

he certainly went up in my estimation. you know it hasnt happened for awhile but there were a couple of good finds at the euros. players to whom we premiership obsessed fans wouldnt have known before. altintop fits the bill here. also zhirkov was amazing. i thought gokhan inler had a good tournament for the swiss, and of course the meteoric rise to fame of semih and dont forget nihat, although widely known for years, especially for his zecond place finish with sociedad 5 or 6 years ago showed that on his day he can change a game on its head.
