World Cup Seeding Predictions
      #14829 - 26/11/2009 19:31

Hi everyone. With the World Cup draw barely a week away, and with not much to do tonight, I decided I'd have a go at trying to predict FIFA's seedings. My understanding of the plan for seedings and groups is as follows:

1. The hosts and top 7 teams in October's rankings will make up Pot 1.
2. The rest of the teams will be seeded based on rankings, past WC performances and confederation.
3. Teams will be drawn so that no group contains two teams from the same confederation, except UEFA, where two teams in the same group is the maximum.

So, my predicted seedings(and potential groups based on them)are below. I'd like to hear people's opinions on them. Would you have put teams in a different group? Who would your team's ideal/nightmare group be?

First of all, my seedings:
Pot 1 - S. Africa, Brazil, Spain, Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Argentina, England
Pot 2 - France, Portugal, Greece, USA, Mexico, Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile
Pot 3 - Switzerland, Serbia, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ghana
Pot 4 - Australia, Japan, N. Korea, S. Korea, Algeria, Nigeria, Honduras, New Zealand

And my potential groups:
Group A - S. Africa, France, Switzerland, S. Korea
Group B - Brazil, Portugal, Cameroon, Japan
Group C - Spain, USA, Ivory Coast, New Zealand
Group D - Holland, Chile, Serbia, Honduras
Group E - Italy, Mexico, Ghana, Australia
Group F - Germany, Paraguay, Denmark, Nigeria
Group G - Argentina, Greece, Slovakia, Algeria
Group H - England, Uruguay, Slovenia, N. Korea

So, what are people's thoughts?
