Since World Soccer are now starting to promote the forum more heavily in the new-look magazine, and we're getting more new posters here as a result, I thought it'd be nice to set up a thread in which new members can introduce themselves properly if they so wish. I'd like to suggest this to the admin people as a sticky topic, by the way. Of course, old members are also welcome to do so here, so we've got them all in one place. I'll start, to give people an idea of what to put...
I'm Sam, I'll be turning 23 soon and I'm currently living with my parents in Somerset, south-west England, to save some money, having graduated from Manchester University last year. My dream is to write for a living, and at the moment I'm doing a lot of football writing on the Argentine league for www.voiceoffootball.com (I'm Sam Kelly, if you want to look for my column in the sidebar) and for my own website, the link to which you'll find in my signature.
I'm a Manchester United supporter, and also stick up for Barcelona in Spain because I've got two half-Catalán cousins. In Argentina, my side are River Plate, since they're supported by the woman who introduced me to Argentina and its football, my now ex-girlfriend.
Aside from watching lots of football I read, write and listen to funk music.

Hi, I`m Jakob from Aarhus in Denmark. I`m 33 and follow local club AGF. I travel to all the away games and have only missed one match the last 5 years. I follow them coz they`re the local side. No scientific explanation.
Unlike most Danish football fans I don`t reallyvfollow any clubs abroad and I couldn`t care less about the national team. In my book there is only AGF and football is watched at the grounds, not on the telly. However I do realise I`m very much alone in this, haha. I do have an interest in what happens on pitches elsewhere, hence my subscription to World Soccer.
I work as a manager at a freight central for a living and live with my girlsfriend who is a cook and doesn`t bitch about the time and money I spend going to footie games. You gotta love her.
Besides football I play and record rock and metal music, draw comic strips, watch splattermovies, read a lot and go out way too much. I go to the pub with the guys and my girlfriend goes to fancy cafès with her girlsfriends. Works out great.

I´m Daniel, 26 years old and I´m living in Goettingen, middle of germany.
As a big fan of international football, I heard of the world soccer magazine two years ago and became a regular reader very soon.
I´m interested in nearly all international leagues but I truly prefer the english premiership alongside the spanish "La Liga". I also follow the german Bundesliga of course with the emotional focus on "my" team VfL Bochum. Due to an upgraded satellite equipment I´m finally able to catch up the action of overseas leagues like the argentinian and brasilian top flight as well but it is nearly impossible to watch all the interesting matches live or even delayed because of my duties as a student at the local university and as a coach for youth football teams in the age of 10 to 14 years.
While our sports newspapers are mainly focused on the german football I have to take advantage of all the useful international football forums and football pages in english language to get up to date with views on the global aspects of our favourite sport.

Hi. It's somewhat crazy introducing myself after being an active member of this forum for well over 6 or 7 months but nevertheless,as Sam has invited us all to introduce ourselves,so will I comply.
I'm Subhankar Mondal. I turned 20 just over a month ago and I am currently in Bangalore,India in my second year at college. I am originally from West Bengal and owe much of my footballing fanaticism to the culture and environment in which I was conceived,born and bred. I know all too well that several of the people who boast of a footballing national culture(Europeans and Latin Americans) would refute my claims to be as mad and passionate about football as they are but I can guarantee them that I am just like them in terms of loving and absorbing this game as my own. Football might be a pariah sport here in India with few people filterng through the Manchester Uniteds,the Arsenals or the Real Madrids,but in my West Bengal,which is appreciated as the hub of football in my country,football is really,really significant,almost like a religion if you would have it so.
I come from a family where football was seen as the Number 1 sport. My father and all my cousins are absolutely love this game and now that I am in this World Soccer forum,which is arguably the most widely recognised football magazine,I feel so good.
I support Real Madrid and have been supporting the club since I was 12 or 13 years of age. The club has remained one the key elements to live at all as it often,for me,becomes the sole reason to pick up quarrels with people(even my best friends at my hometown have not been spared of this wrath).
Besides watching football,which I do(or would prefer to do since I live at our college hostel where most of the guys have rarely watched a full game of football all their lives and dismiss football as a game for kids without realising either the science or the art of it,and so I can't get to watch as many games as I would like)for most of the time,I am deep into Literature. I am also keen on pop music,mainly on ballads and classic love songs by Westlife,Boyzone,Bryan McFadden et al and also enjoy Eminem. I did compose some book and music reviews on Amazon.com.

I agree but you know, helps the new people get some idea of who they've got to contend with! A short introduction to me and Sub collectively... we often have our disagreements (in fact we're having several on the forums right now), but I think by and large we can respect each other's passion for the game and just enjoy it as a good old 'get stuck right in' style debate. Which is how it should be, really.
What do you think of Borges now by the way, Sub?

It's great to have a discussion that more often than not trespasses into the realm of debate. Sam,I really find all the discussion here absolutely essential for my development both as a person and as football lover,and I mean it. I don't think anyone of us here actually want to put one over the top of others;we all are here I suppose to exvhange our thoughts and trade our views and the that we two proceed Sam,well,that deserves all the praise in the world. Not that I want to undermine anyone. And hey,what about Nuls? He seems to disappeared altogether after moving back to the States!
Borges.....I guess we discussed about him earlier thread,didn't we? I have studies only "Ficciones"(translated version of it of course) and to be honest,he appealed to me mainly because of his style of looking at even the most common of things from a whole new and previouly unexplored angle but can't really say that he has impressed as much as to change a lot of things. Sorry if you think otherwise(and I know that you think otherwise!)

i,m Stephen,a 36 year old fan of Cowdenbeath in Scottish Division 2(and looking like theyll stay there this season!),a team AKA "the blue brazil".I'm actually from Inverness in the Highlands rather than Fife and was originally a fan of local team Caledonian who played in the Highland League but then in the early 90s they merged with Inverness Thistle so i was left without a club.Been supporting Cowden for 10 years now and footballs fun again.
I also continue to watch a lot of Highland League football,especially when im skint as its cheap to get into and usually pretty entertaining.
Ive a keen interest in European and world football,honed by my monthly reading of WS which ive been getting since 1986.I also love international football although i feel the quality of the world cup has been decreasing for years.Similarly,my long standing love of Italian football has been sorely tested in this last year by the shenanigans there.
I feel footballs biggest problems nowadays are an almost institutionalised acceptance of cheating and by the way that top division football continues to distance itself from its traditional grass-roots support

I'm Rich (alas in name only), 32 from Coventry. I follow my home team as well as Solihull Borough non league outfit. I get to their games more often due to them being a lot cheaper!!!!
I was hooked into the 'beautiful game' by the 86 world cup, which probably explains why i think Maradona is the greatest player ever to have played (Pele? meh!).
I contribute as often as I can to the forum, usually with the most intelligent and incisive comments to be found here

My name is Darren i am 23 years old i live in London, and i have been a Arsenal fan all my life.In the last 2 years i have been supporting AZ Alkmaar who are a small team in Holland. and are doing well in the Dutch leauge.

Hi I'm Barney. I'm an Everton fan, although after watching David Moyes team of robots kick the ball towards the corner flags for the last five years, the word 'fan' is probably overstating my affection for the Blues.
I'm 39, read World Soccer regularly, but not religiously. I find much of modern football, with its emphasis on money and the transformation of sport into entertainment, quite depressing. The culture of cheating doesn't help either. I think the creation of the Premiership is the worst thing that could have happened to English football. Similarly, I oppose the creation of the Champions League for the way in which it makes the rich richer.
I also deplore the way in which footballers, especially in England, have become celebrities. Beckham, all style over substance, seems a perfect sporting icon for our vacuous times. I'm disappointed that international football appears to be on the wane because so much of my early footballing memory comes from watching the World Cup. But, alas, I can think of nothing that will stop this inexorable trend from country to club. All in all I'm a bit of a miserable git, I suppose.
Having said that, the lover of football in me finds it difficult not to get reeled in each season and although I've tried to kick the habit, I find it's something I can't shake off.

Hi, I'm Richards.
Don't really have a club side as such, although I have a soft spot for York City. I share a lot of barney's disillusionment with modern day football. However, when I think back to the rubbish that was served up in England when long ball football ruled the roost, I think it's almost a golden era at the moment. Yes, money distorts, but it also brings many of the best players to England, which from a selfish perspective, is quite attractive.
I live in London so don't get to see many top flight matches in the flesh. It's difficult getting tickets and to be honest, I can't really justify the expense at the moment.
Music (mostly offbeat stuff), films, politics are my other interests.
You all seem like nice friendly people on here and I hope to spend more time on the board as it seems to be getting busier these days.

Hi, I'm Simon, otherwise known as Righteous1. I am 25 years old and a fan of my local team Peterborough United of English League 2 (4th division, I know, silly isn't it!).
I go and watch 'the posh' regularly and we have had a bit more excitement this season thank to a mega bucks new owner(A 'Wimpy' to Roman Abramovich's 'McDonalds' if you like), and still harbour hopes of a play off place. We are managed by Sir Alex Ferguson's son, Darren.
I also support (2 teams?, I know sacrilige) the mighty Liverpool. I am a glory hunter in the respect that I started supporting them as an 80's kid because they used to win everything, but I consider myself as passionate as one can be as a long distance fan and watch every game from the comfort of my sofa, (though I have seen them an Anfield, honest!). Luckily Peterborough and Liverpool rarely meet, in fact just once in history, I was in the posh end in 1991 when the posh amazingly pulled off a 1-0 victory. Unbridled joy on one hand tempered with abject embarrasment on the other.
I have read World Soccer for a few years now, but am new to the forum, having only recently discovered a new avenue to endlessly discuss football and annoy my fiance.

I'm Gareth, just joined the forum after many years subscribing to WS. I'm 37, another Liverpool fan, by family tradition rather than birth as I'm from Cardiff. Which means I can take pleasure in England's hilarious attempts at impersonating a national team, particularly as it draws attention away from the fact that my own nation is currently below Cyprus in our group!
I used to play local league in and around Leicester until I moved up to Saddleworth 3 years ago. I get to a few Reds games a year plus a smattering of Huddersfield, Oldham, Reds reserves games, etc. I played a footie PBM game for years and was a regular on their forum until I got tired of the constant bickering and inane debate. So this forum is a refreshing change! The PBM game got me interested in wider European football, particularly looking out for stars of the future.
Although occasionally I get sick of the antics of modern players I don't think I'll ever lose my love for the game, mainly because it's such a simple game that I can't see how it can ever change fundamentally. So much can still be achieved by the genius of one manager or one player, and that is eternal.
Actually the thing that annoys me most about modern footie is the media coverage. Wherever you look, from the so-called quality press who are calling for McLaren to be sacked after 5 qualifiers, to the fansites that deliberately spread lies about their rivals, to the subtle bias of Sky's coverage, it's all pretty unpleasant.
Anyway, here's to some decent arguments!

I only joined the forum a few days ago but have been reading World Soccer since 1994.
I'm 37 & "my team" are Brighton & Hove Albion - although I'm definitely a "follower" rather than a "supporter". I'm actually from the footballing wasteland of Buckinghamshire so grew up without a "local" team to support - at least at football league level. How I ended up picking Brighton is frankly inexplicable!
Anyway, these days I seem to follow the fortunes of a fair number of teams - both in England & abroad - with almost the same degree of enthusiasm as I do Brighton. My penchant is mostly for "overachieving unfashionable clubs" - Reading, Wigan, Bolton, Colchester, Korona Kielce...
Anything else about myself? Well I like to travel a lot - & hopefully will do so again very soon. I have a small dream to write something combining my travels with my interest in footballing history - but so far this is just a dream, so we will see.

My first love is the Mighty Zebras, Botswana's Men's National Team. My heart belongs to the beautiful Zebras.I am crazy about the Zebra's teams starting from the Under-17, thru the Under-20, the Olympic squad and the senior team.Follow with a passion..
I am a Real Madrid fan, have been for well over two decades.I watch La Liga most times when their games are shown. I never miss a Real game if shown. Rather a delayed version or highlights than nothing. I also follow international football and watch every major league footie game that gets coverage this part of the world when time allows.
I love Brazilian football, African and South American football in general. I follow and watch Brasileiro games and never miss highlight packages of the Argentine league.
EPL games receive substantial coverage here to the point of saturation and I make it a point to watch all matches involving the top four or five teams. I watch Tottenham Hotspurs more than any other EPL team. Have a soft spot for the club since my teens(late 70's)...courtesy of one of my elder cousins, Chris who is a fan...he is four years my senior.His father and educationist went for a short-tem study in Scotland and always bought him Eglish soccer mags..In the 80s(late 80s) I started being a regular reader of World Soccer, Shoot and one other publication that rivals Shoot.
Since my country has never featured in a major tournament I always root for Brasil at the World Cup. No not because I'm a bandwaggoner or somesuch...started following them and Real Madrid during their lean years...Never miss Copa America or any other game involving the Selecao if shown.
I am an Economist(Financial)cum Accountant and in gainful employment here at home. As I live next door to South Africa,I will be looking forward to welcoming any of you who might make it to WC 2010!

Hello I'm Lee from Cheshire. I've just turned 33, but I don't look it do I????
I'm a Man United fan, and have been since I was seven. I used to go to watch United regularly in the late 80's. To tell you how times have changed I was still at school when I used to go to watch United and it cost £3.30 to get in ! I doubt if many schoolboys can afford to go to watch premier League football nowadays.
I've been reading World Soccer since 1984. I live in a bit of a backwater and I used to have terrible trouble getting the magazine, so it was an occasional treat for me.
I decided to subscribe in 1989 and I haven't missed an issue since. The subscription service at the time was pretty poor, but now the service is excellent. The magazine arrives the same day as it goes on general sale usually.
World Soccer is quite simply the best football magazine around and is the one place where I know I WILL find interesting information on what is going on in the world game. The writers are not too self serving unlike Henry Winter, Brian Woolnough, etc, and their knowledge is second to none....also unlike Henry Winter, Brian Woolnough etc! I love the fact that they don't tend to get caught up in the ridiculous lynchmob mentality when dealing with the England team, and the magazine doesn't act as though the world ends at Dover. It truly represents the world of football.
I would like to point out that I'm not an employee of World Soccer ! Although if they want to offer me a job..........

Hi Rajman here, I am football fan from london England. QPR is my team has been for over 30 years. I follow international football worldwide and am a statistician on the beautiful game.
I have been collecting stats and videos/dvd's of games since 1986 and have written 3 books on African and asian football. I look forward to collaborating to this forum.

Hi. My name is Marcin and I live in Warsaw, Poland. When I signed for this forum during 2006 World Cup, it was very small - I was only 14th registered user then. I was looking for a place on internet where football joins people, instead of dividing them if you know what I mean. I have seen too many forums, where I could find 30 posts in the topic, with only 1 or 2 of them interesting. It is interesting to me to know other people opinions abouth the game.
I am 28 now and I first bought World Soccer 11 years ago. Not that I am month-to-month reader since then, but I really like the magazine. Even if I could only understand 20% of texts when I first bought it, it was clear to me that this is something on much higher level than polish football magazines, both in articles quality and graphical side. I dreamed then that I could have a job connected to football one day. It came true, as I am editor of sport section of Canal+ polish website.
I'll be back there to follow your discussions and maybe I'll write something too. Sorry for any mistakes in my english.

I follow Glasgow Rangers and have season ticket for the Copeland front stand. I have followed the Gers from an early age. Hi, what's up,
I'm Dalbs. I'm 15 soon to be 16 and I'm a Barca fan. I follow football from most countries and I like a few different clubs in each country but will always support Barca. Some of the clubs I like are Santos, Independiente, Inter, Roma, Palermo, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Tottenham, Reading, Bremen, Lyon, Hamburg, CSKA Moscow and Ajax.
I hate Real Madrid and all of Englands top 4. I do however respect every club.
I am a fan of young players and always like to know of the best youngsters so give me a message if you know any. Thanks.
Some of my favourte players are Messi, Kaka, Ronaldinho, Etoo, Puyol, Gerrard, Xavi and Terry.
Although I support Barca I always watch and support England in international matches.
I would also like to mention that I get every issue of World Soccer.
Other than football I also enjoy comedy and Wrestling.

G'day all, I'm 33-year-old Mike from Sydney, Australia. My club team (as such) is Sydney FC in the new A-League, which is currently struggling to establish itself after the old national competition in Australia, the NSL, died in 2003/04.
I've been subscribing to WS for about eight years now...and receiving the mag is still my highlight of the month. Last year I managed to get to the World Cup to see my beloved Socceroos in action, and while there had the good fortune to meet some of my journalistic heroes from WS - including the irrepressible Brian Glanville.

You've gotta be proud of the youths eg Walcott, Bale. Both brilliant players who will bring in a lot of money for Southhampton. Potentially £12 million for Walcott (if all the bonuses pull off) plus probably the same or more for Bale.

I'm Mark, and am from Newcastle. I just bought my first WorldSoccer magazine, the one with Lionel Messi on the cover and I like it.
I am a fan of Newcastle United despite their failures, I also like to keep an eye on other foreign teams like Barcelona, and several others.
I don't like the fact that footballers no longer belong to the community, they are too highly paid to be able to relate to any fans, and I feel football clubs have lost touch with fans and don't take their opinion seriously enough.

Digging in dribs and drabs about me you'll find out that I was born in city over great Neva or just St Petersburg. I'm a freshman in university. Wanna be a real programmer. But just now my salary is, so to speak, left but livable.
As for my school life I was A-Student. I maybe sometimes shy and sometimes bossy. And net community comes easier to me than real.

Hello, I'm Pierre, 39 years old, lifelong fan of Lyon (local team).
I unfortunately left Lyon when I was a student and I do not have the chance to see many games at Gerland (once a year at best). In other words, I spent 10 years in the stadium in the 80s when they were in second division but never really had the chance to see them on a regular basis since they are on top (in France). It doesn't matter, it doesn't prevent me from being very proud of them.
I had the chance to have some great expat experiences in London (2y) and New York (3y) but I came back to Paris last year.
I like travelling and for example visited almost all the stadiums that welcomed a World Cup final for example 
I also attended the WC98 final in the Stade de France (wedding gift - pretty nice, wasn't it?).
I don't really support any other team abroad, but I have some respect for a club like Milan for example.
In England, no real preference really. Maybe West Ham for their brilliant academy. I am also impressed by the ability of Liverpool to be so consistently brilliant on the European stage (like Milan).
I am also known as "Lyonnais" in another well known forum.

Alright? I'm Rich, 21 from Hull. I support Hull City and haven't missed a match, home or away, for about 3 seasons now. I've been a season ticket holder for 7 years, but saw my first game in 1994 against Shrewsbury at Boothferry Park. More recently,I've witnessed two promotions but also a fair amount of crap, especially last season, when we narrowly avoided relegation to League One.
My all time favourite footballer is Ian Ashbee, currently City's captain. Some people prefer Keane, Viera or Ince as midfield Generals but I'd rather watch Ash anyday.
I play 6 a side football, for the oddly named Los Battlestar Galacticos. My best position is defence but I like to try my hand in the midfield when I can. I like to think that I have an eye for goal but most of the time my shooting is wayward, but my passing is pretty decent, even if i do have a tendency to try the odd Hollywood Pass.

I'm from Rio de Janeiro and I'm a Flamengo fan. I try to make it to all the matches we play home, but it's kinda hard to attend to the away games... And as I live close to Maracanã I get to watch Flamengo live very often.
I haven't got much contact with World Soccer magazine for it's pretty hard and expensive to get the magazine here in Brazil. The website kinda gives an idea of it.
I'm pretty excited about taking part in this forum. It may be a good oportunity to talk about football (the REAL football)with people from all over the world.
As English is not my first language, I apologize for any spelling mistake I might have made or I will make from now on.
I'm working on a blog or something to write down some of my toughts on football (and sports in general) and society... It would be great to face some debates on the issue here.

I've been a member of this message board for awhile but had not previously introduced myself before. My name is Manuel and my screen name "enganche" in football terms means playmaker in English. I am 42 and was born in Sarandi, Argentina and have been a life long supporter of Independiente, the club from neighbouring Avellaneda. In order to escape the military dictatorship in Argentina in the early 80's, I was able to emigrate first to Colombia then later to the United States where I now live.
I know a few posters here from another message board and I am always willing to discuss football with fans from around the world. My wife doesn't even complain as she knows it keeps me out of the bars and talking football there!

Like Enganche, i've been here for a while aswell, but never introduced myself. So guys, the mystery is over.
I'm Adam,24 and live in Scarborough, follow Scarborough of course and Everton since i was a wee lad.
Besides being in Scarborough, i also move between Abu Dhabi and Krabi, Thailand, thus my interest in Asian Football and now the Arab game.
Over there, i tend to follow the thai game closely, and feel they really do have a love for the game, and besides that, most support Everton just because of Tim Cahill.
As i say, currently in sunny Scarborough, but kind of fallen out of love with the English game, and looking more into the lesser leagues of European football. So if you find out interesting or bizarre, as seems to happen in the minnows of European football, then personnel message me, i'm sure to take a look.

Middlesbrough season ticket holder for many a moon but more of a football fan than a middlesbrough fan. From Redcar, a small seaside town near middlesbrough.
Lived in Scotland for 2 years in which time i took in as much Footbaa as i could, from the Old firm derby to Gretna's first game in the Scottish leagues against Greenock Morton.

i'm Alex, i'm 29 yeard old and I live in Sunny Poole, Dorset!
I'm originally from Whitehaven in Cumbria and within the next 9 months i'll be moving to California, USA.
As a youngster I followed Manchester United but as I get older I tend to appreciate the game as a whole and just want to see good and entertaining football.
Like millions of other football fans, I still retain the delusional belief that one day a scout will catch me playing at the local park and invite me for a trial with a professional club! I've even convinced myself that when I move to California i'll be good enough to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy!
I'm not greedy though, so failing that i'd love to write about the game for a living. I certainly don't profess to be a grammatical wizard because i'm not but what I do pride myself on is a good knowledge of the game and a willingness to learn.

My name is Declan and I'm from Galway in the Republic of Ireland, strangely enough I'm a huge Cork city fan,( I started attending games when I was going to college in the city and haven't stopped since) and I can't wait for the day I get to watch a champs lge group fixture take place at Turners cross.
I'm also a lifelong Liverpool fan but I enjoy watching most of the major European lges (with the exception of the coma inducing Serie A), La Liga in particular.
While I remain a fanatical fan of the sport I must admit I am growing a little disillusioned with some aspects of the game, including the acceptence and almost systematic promotion of cheating (diving, tactical fouls etc)and also the double standards prevalent in Football at the momment especially regarding FIFA's enforcement of the 2 club rule.
Despite these misgivings I still look forward to chatting with you all.

I'm David and am 27. Like most people on here, I do follow football in general and am a bit of a geek as far as my friends are concerned! However, I do have 3 main teams that I follow. They are Reading (I was born there), Glasgow Rangers (Timmy Mallet's fault) and Valencia (Almost moved there!) My brother and I are trying to get to all 92 league grounds in Britain. We have done 11 so far but it is very much an open ended project!
Aside from football, I am a big speedway fan and will be in Cardiff next week for the British Grand Prix! I also enjoy reading and listening to rock music

I'm a United fan from Chorlton, Manchester. I've been a season ticket holder in K-Stand for the last 17 years (oh how I wish we still had teracing!!) For my sins, I'm now working Hertfordshire.
Other than my wife and little girl, Football is everything to me. Not just the Premier League, but Football as a whole. This is why World Soccer is the perfect magazine for me!
As for foreign teams, I have a soft spot for Ajax. I've always admired them from a distance and I've loved some of their great players from years gone by.
Can't wait for the new season to start. To see the attacking players we've signed play next year will be a treat. I just hope the Tevez deal will not prove too costly further down the line.
My other interests are Horse Racing, Music and Cricket.

Firstly, a big welcome to the forum mate.
I personally only support one team in Everton but i do also have not just a soft spot for Ajax but Holland as a whole as they have and still produce great talent from the country, for instance Royston Drenthe whom i am certain we will all be familiar with in the not too distant future.
Congratulations also on your League title success of last season.I also enjoy watching Cricket and like my music but i have gone off Horse Racing as i feel the sport is rigged to finance the richer folk in the know in becoming richer while the poor get poorer, still, i have a flutter each year on the Grand National.

Hi, I'm Gav. I have just stepped over the 30 years of age mark.
My interest in football stemmed from my Dad buying me a Norwich City kit when I was four years old. My first WC memory was watching Bryan Robson score against France in Spain 1982 - since those two moments, I have been hooked.
World Soccer has been my bible since 1986, where I started to collect and collate WC publications and statistics. I have been a reader from school through university and then through my career as a teacher and writer around the world. I have spent the past few years teaching in Saudi Arabia, Macau, Hong Kong and Italy and have a particular interest in the game in Asia. Hence my disgust at the lack of Asian Cup coverage this month in WS!
As for the teams that I follow, I have a love of Internazionale and Gillingham. I have been an Inter season ticket holder for the past two years, commuting more often than not from my home in Surrey, where I now live and work. Personally, I cannot stand the Premiership and feel the game is more natural and fascinating at any level other than the English top flight.

I should have done this when I first registered, but I've only just noticed this thread. My name's Michael and I'm 34. I live in Donegal, Rep.of Ireland, however the first thirty years of my life were spent in Belfast, Northern Ireland - so you could say that I have a foot in both countries.
Some of my first memories are of watching football matches on TV, the first one that I can distinctly recall was the 1979 FA Cup final between Arsenal and Man Utd - I've been hooked ever since. I try to attend matches when I can, either in the Eircom league or the Irish premier league. However my first love would be the history of the game - I really enjoy reading about the great teams, players and tournaments of the past, and the social context of the times that they inhabited. I'm not a 'football historian' as such, but that's definitely what my dream career would be!
Look forward to having a lot of discussions with you all.

My name is Frederick and I live in the northern part of Belgium, in Limburg. I'm just 14 years old.
I don't really watch the Belgium football, as I'm really interested in the English football. Since the moment I became interested in football, I've supportered for Chelsea FC. The first football match I really followed was the first match of the Dutch national team on the World Cup 2006. Since then, I just was in love with football.
The only matches I saw in a stadium were some of Racing Genk, who just became second in the "Jupiler League", the Premier League of Belgium.

Hi everyone - I'm Stephen.
I've been getting more and more into football ever since Euro 96 I guess, when I was 8. I'm a Liverpool fan, and I guess I was drawn by the exciting young players who were coming through at the time (Owen, Gerrard, ...), along with the other attacking players who were pretty much established (Fowler, McManaman, etc).
I must confess I only discovered World Soccer a few months ago when I spotted it in the shop at the University of Sheffield's student union, but now I'm hooked. Saying that, most of my football knowledge comes from Football Manager (so I'm afraid I've already heard of some of the players in the talent scout section!).
Despite being a Liverpool fan, my first footballing memory would be the 1994 FA Cup final between Man Utd and Chelsea. My first Liverpool memory would be the '95 League Cup final against Bolton.

My favorite player is Andriy Schevchenko - the best Ukrainian player now. From foreign players I like Ronaldinho most of all.

Ranckoner from Glasgow, Scotland. Supporter of Juventus of Italy and Italian football in general. I enjoy watching football when I get the chance. My football reading list so far contains: Alex Ferguson's autobiography; Dynamo; Calcio; Forza Italia; Fields of Glory, Paths of Gold. There's far too many bio's n autobio's and not enough stories out there.
I am currently studying Sports Coaching with a view to becoming a football coach and am particularly interested in anything anyone may have to offer with regards to coaching.

Hi,
I’ve posted a few things on this forum before but have just seen this thread. My name is Richard and I’ve just turned 24. I was unfortunate enough to be born and raised in Plymouth, England and as such support Plymouth Argyle, making me ideally placed to comment on the merits of long balls hoofed aimlessly upfield and Ginsters pasties as a half-time snack (delicious  !). Aside from this I take an interest in football in general and enjoy reading (although for some reason I never read football books. Maybe someone could suggest some that I might enjoy?), music, cycling etc…

i'm in love with football, since the age of 4 maybe...i watch the EPL, SPL, la liga, calcio, bundesliga, eredivisie, ligue 1, BWIN liga, UCL, UEFA cup, brasileirao, campeonata argentina, libertadores, j-league, uae, ksa, egyptian, qatar and tunisian leagues, AFC champs league and all international competitions from u17 to senior level and beach football.
i'd love to be a manager some day, i'v already been one for an u13's team, assitant for an u20 team...all done before reaching my 18th birthday (and im still that young hehe).

Hey. I'm Alex, I'm 17 and I live in Brisbane, Australia. I support Queensland Roar in the A-League [Australia's relatively new domestic competition.] I also support Manchester United in the English Premier League [which I have done since I was 6 years old.] Just like everyone else, I have a number of other clubs I admire, generally clubs who play quality, attacking Football.
My favourite player is Cristiano Ronaldo. I also admirer of a number of other players too.

I'm a 59 year old lunatic subsisting on social security benefits in the North of England, currently seeing the dermatologist to combat the hair that is growing between my toes.
I usually get up after 12 noon and go to my local cafe for a coffee - it used to be a coffee and a fag, but nowadays of course that simple pleasure has been denied us by the increasing talibanisation of the country with the Health & Safety and political correctness mobs taking over. All politicians should be put out of their misery for their own and the public good. Blair was a particular disaster.
In view of this I have been offered the toilet cleaner's job At Olympiakos but have turned it down as I dont know any Greek - however I will be heading for sunnier climes as I speak fluent french and Italian. I will be able to use the internet to keep abreast of Wednesday's disasters on the pitch - I can only thank the lord that I'm not a Newcastle fan.
My new years resolution was to become vegetarian - alas it went the way of all flesh.

I dont have hairy toes but hair between the toes which is a far more serious problem. In fact I have recently been diagnosed with paranoid psychosis with psychotic delusional symptoms and require specialist psychiatric opinion and anti psychotic medication - but as a football fan having lived in the soccer wastelands of yorkshire most of my life it is not surprising that I am going completely insane.
It strikes me that NUFC could do a lot worse than give Warnock a try - at least for 3 months until the end of the season - shouldn't take much to prise him away from palace -
as a fellow yorkshire lunatic i think he would do rather well - i mean - no offence to the toon but they've brought it on themselves haven't they? - all that chopping and changing - though surely Allardyce had to go, such a BGB - Wednesday have suffered the same fate over the years - what a contrast to Dave Moyes for instance - the best bit og business any club has done since the Pl started - I mean get somebody decent and stick with him and it pays dividends - how do you feel about going to Tesco land by the way?

Not happy with the Tesco fiasco and moving to Kirkby larr larr land, but certain Evertonians do believe every little helps. Could be worse however as Asda are also mentioned in the stadium switch, i mean they have the "Roll back" slogan. Roll back what?, the bad old years.

My main hobby is beating old ladies over the head with sticks and cudgels fashioned from pieces of two by four filched from a nearby timber merchants. I also enjoy dressing up in Shirley Bassey outfits and firebombing the local Burger King outlets.

I live in a bedsit near the Botanical gardens where I wee in the sink at night and have a pet spider called Boris. The next door neighbour is a right old bag. My favourite food is saucisson de squirrel in pear sauce with egg plant and pimento side salad and I would rather drink tea brewed from the gussets of incontinent OAP’s underwear than see Chelsea win the premiership again. Don’t half fancy that Arsene Wenger bloke though. I attended the magistrates last week as I was alleged to have breached my ASBO and am still awaiting confirmation of my application for the post of PE teacher at the local all girls academy. It takes guts as far as I am concerned to leap from the bushes of a cold November night dressed in nothing but a leotard as the staff nurses are clocking off. I am convinced we would be better off under the Gestapo. Avram Grant is a transsexual, a fellow graduate, with ginger quiff Mcclueless of the Tel Aviv personality and toupe reassignment clinic. I have been contracted by the News of the World to write an expose which will hit the press shortly.

wouldnt say i support one team, just like to see great football played and see great entertainment which i think has went right out the sport now.always buy world soccer, i have done for years now. best magazine ever. i will watch any football on tv, premiership, scottish league, spanish, german, italian, anything.

I am as my screen name states Mark. I am originally from Dundee in Scotland but now live in Milton Keynes with my girlfriend and step-daughter. I have a son and daughter from a previous marriage who live in Fife, Scotland.
I am 33 years old and I have read World Soccer for at least 20 years now. I only subscribed to the magazine though last month which yes seems a bit back side forwards.
I love my football but not I must say as much as I used to as I think money has spoiled football and provincial clubs to me have next to no chance of winning league championships now.
I support my home town club Dundee Utd, well somebody has to. I also support Man Utd stemming from seeing them play my club in a UEFA Cup game in 1984 which they narrowly beat Dundee Utd 5-4 on agg.
I also go regularly now with my girlfriend to see the MK Dons which is my local team and of which the legend that is Paul Ince has done a great job. Please stay Paul, tell Leicester to get knotted.
I must admit in all the years World Soccer's quality has never slipped and is the only footie mag I would read.
Theres my plug for World Soccer do I get something for doing that!!!

Hi, I'm Davidov.
I'm 15 years old and live in Southend-on-sea, in Essex. Football completely dominates my life, and I have no idea what I'd do without it! My favourite teams are Southend United and Liverpool, but I also take an interest in all kinds of football: the top 4 English leagues, La Liga, Serie A and the Bundesliga in particular, though I am very interested in all the other leagues around Europe.
In the future, I'd like to have a job involved with football, such as a newspaper journalist or member of a football organisation. I am currently studying French and German so hopefully I might be able to use these in the future to become president of UEFA or something like that, though that is being probably too over-optimistic.
I like will watch any football on TV, and have been a subscriber to World Soccer for about 3-4 years. I love the magazine, especially because it covers the game all around the world, unlike most English newspapers, which seem to think that football is only played in this country. I know this probably isn't the right thread to put this, but I would like to see a letters page introduced to the magazine, where someone at World Soccer responds. The recently added 'from the forums' section is great but I would still like a more detailed letters page to be at least considered.
Ok, that is me, I look forward to discussing a variety of football issues with you.

Introduced myself to Steve Woodside during his competition, but forgot to do the same for everyone else. I'm Paul, 26, from Tralee in Ireland, and currently jobhunting after completing a masters in marketing. I've followed the game since the Republic's exploits in Italia 90, but haven't seen many live games as there's no real soccer tradition where I live, but hopefully that will change if the local club joins the League of Ireland next season. As the screen name suggests, I'm a lifelong Manchester United supporter and after the soccer season ends, it's time to follow the Kerry gaelic football team.

ha no seriously, ive loved watching soccer since world cup 98!
im croatian, and my peoples passion and enthusiasm for the game is a big reason why i became a fan of soccer!!
unfortunitly i dont have a favorite team because its hard to follow in the united states. i do have a few soccer channels, and i usually watch whatever is on.
i enjoy watching the english premier league,bundesliga, la liga, ect. as well as all the major tournaments.
currently im trying to learn more about the game. there is so much to know. im trying to figure out how all these tournaments are played and how qualifying is attained. if anyone is interested in helping me out and answering any soccer questions that would be greatly appreciated. just shoot me a message.

I've been living in Australia for eight years now, previously i lived in New Zealand.
I know these two countries are not really Soccer nations (in NZ its Rugby in Australia it's Footy [aussie rules])
but my love for the world game comes from my parents who come from soccer loving nations.
So i guess you could say that i was born destined to be a soccer fanatic.
I'm a supporter of Real Madrid, but i also have great respect for Arsenal.

Hi All. I'm Peter, from Yorkshire. I have somewhat divided loyalties when it comes to football. I'm both a Manchester United and Kidderminster Harriers supporter, but also had a season ticket at Sheffield United for around a decade due to family ties. When it comes to football outside of England, i follow the progress of FC Lausanne-Sport of the Swiss Challenge League (second division), again for family reasons. I first became aware of World Soccer when my Uncle got me a subscription in 2001, and thankfully he has continued the subscription ever since! Although I have no background in journalism or sports writing, i seem to be hooked on the prospect of it at the moment...

Hi. I'm Tracey, a football fan from the US. I've watched football for years but recently started to really get into it now that I have access to GOL TV and a satellite radio soccer channel. I follow Watford FC mostly because I'm a huge Elton John fan and he's a big old Watford supporter.
I also like German football but haven't settled on a team to support yet.

Hello everyone,
My name is Richie. I am from the Holy Land (or Newcastle upon Tyne as it is commonly known by people who haven't yet experienced its magic), in the North East of England.
I'm a supporter of Newcastle United and Argentina, and a football fanatic in general. I play quite a bit of amateur football, as a centre midfielder, and although I always take to the pitch with the aim of replicating my hero Manuel Rui Costa in truth my playing style is probably closer to Carlton Palmer!
Apart from that not much to say really - currently living in London, trying to finish my PhD thesis on fluid dynamics (yes it is as boring as it sounds) and begging for someone to give me a job for when I eventually finish the blasted thing!

I'm Richard from the Isle of Man. I'm an Everton supporter who is really enjoying our current strikerless form!
I read World Soccer regularly as I find it an excellent read and the best source for well-written articles on all aspects of football. I'm trying to make the effort to follow more world football these days, rather than just the English and Spanish game that gets thrown our way!
Other teams that I loosely follow are Torino in Italy and of course Barca in Spain. I'm also keeping an eye on Hertha Berlin's title challenge in the Bundesliga as I know a lad who is a big Hertha fan.
Player wise my favourite current non-Everton players are Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Samuel Eto'o and Andres Iniesta.

Hi, i'm owen, 18, live in west wales - (welsh speaking part) and am going to study languages in swnsea or cardiff next year.

Hi, I am Russ and I live in the USA. I am 46 yrs old. I will always be fan of the 1970's NY Cosmos of Pele, Beckenbauer,Neeskhans et al, sadly they are no longer since 1985....so, I have supported Liverpool FC on a club level and Germany, formerly West Germany, on the International level.
I have enjoyed reading Brian Glanville over the last 30 or so years. I had not read him regularly in the last few years so I did the obligatory search and presto...I found his writings here.

Greetings. I am John. I live in Galway and have been a reader of World Soccer for many years. An Arsenal fan, Cliftonville as well. I also believe the game to be in decline. We in these parts do get to see quality football in the Premiership but the price paid is high. The circus can move at any time, the talented millionaires following the gold wherever it next pitches up, and that appears to be Spain.
Uruguay is the footballing nation I most admire. A truly impressive footballing pedigree and still capable of producing players of genuine class. Flair and grit, the great qualities of the game. Granted success may have eluded them lately but the flame still burns.
