Zico is surely underrated in Europe due to the few years he palyed in Italy, and in a smaller team (Udinese). But he surely is considered by many Brazilians the best one since Pele. His leading position in the Brazilian squad in '82 alone says a lot.

About Geroge Best and Cruyff, I think we should really set a time limit for it, or else we should start citing names as Pele, Eusebio, Di Stefano, Puskas, etc.

I'm more than a little dissapointed to see the greatest team goal that I have ever seen in either a highlights package or in live action, being ranked a lowly No.15., epecially considering that quite a few of the goals ranked above it were less aesthetically pleasing and even less difficult to do.

Let us then compare Cambiasso's goal with a similar higher ranked strike, the much lauded Carlos Alberto of 1970.

IMO the only thing that the Brazil goal has over the Argentina one is that it was in a final, apart from that the more recent goal is simply a better one. Even the context edges in favour of Cambiasso if we look more closely: Brazil get a goal on the 87th min in a match that was already up. Argentina got theirs when there was still a semblance of a contest in the air.

Now let us look at the technical side. Cludualdo dance in midfield is overrated, the ball moves to the the left touchline where Tastao connects with Jairzinho further up the pitch. Jairzinho turns in field and lays a pass to Pele in front of the D who in turn lays off a perfectly measired pass to the sprinting CA who finishes with aplomb. But pray tell, where was the pressure on the ball at anytime in this whole movement? There was no pressure on the ball in midfield, and when Pele recieves it, there was neither pressure on the man, nor subsequent pressure on the ball nore any cover of the space to his right. I hate to say it but even I could measure a decent pass given these circumstances.

The Argentina goal is a modern one which means there was plenty of defensive movement on the part of the opposing team. The aesthetics in this goal is 'total football': winning the ball in your own defensive third, laying it off with players running into space, patience in ball position as you move a dogged defensive team around trying to see where the crack appears in their armour, then suddenly you launch into the killer blow with a burst of two touch play at speed that is mesmerising. Cambiasso's first time lay off to

I'm a big fan of Marco Van Basten's goal in the Euro 88 final. I find it hard to narrow it down to one choice though.

I think in compiling a new list of the "greatest goals," one is going to have to give serious consideration to the second of the two goals Marta scored during the 2007 Women's World Cup, in the Brazil-U.S. semi-final match.

BEST TEAM- DEFINATELY THE MILAN OF THE LATE 80'S EARLY 90'S WITH THE DUTCH TRIO, BARESI, MALDINI, MASSARO, BOBAN, ALBERTINI, BILLY COSTACURTA, THEY WOULD BE A MATCH FOR ANYONE TODAY. BUT THEN THERE IS ALSO "I GRANATA" OF TORINO FOR WHO AFTER THE WAR WON 5 BACK TO BACK SCUDETTI BEFORE THE TRAGEDY OF SUPERGA. THEY ALSO WENT 4YRS WITHOUT LOSING AT HOME WINNING 83 GAMES OUT OF 93. ON THE WORLD FRONT IT HAS TO BRAZIL OF THE 70'S AND ALSO ITALY OF 82 WHERE THEY PLAYED MY BEST GAME IN BEATING BRAZIL 3-2 WITH ROSSI NOT BRIBING ANYONE! AND BEING A MILAN FAN IT SAYS SOMETHING IF I THINK THE 3-3 FINAL OF 2005 WAS GREAT. BUT THEN ALSO THERE WAS QPR-NEWCASTLE 5-5 IN THE 80'S THAT I SAW AS A WEE BOY IN '84. SIMPLY EXCITING. GREATEST GOAL EVER WITNESSED WAS TREVOR SINCLAIR FOR Q.P.R. IN THE F.A CUP WITH A BEAUTIFUL OVERHEAD KICK, BUT SEEN HAS TO BE MARADONA '86.
WHAT ABOUT BEST MANAGER? ARRIGO SACCHI FOR ME

Best Goal: Tie between Seedorf's rocket for Real Madrid and Rob. Carlo's free kick against France (I've never seen a ball swerve so much!!)

Best Team: Though I've never seen them live, it would probably have to be the Real Madrid team that won the first few European Cups. Outstanding!

I'm a chelsea fan through and through, and even I have to query why arsenals 2002 - 2004 team was not in there, wenger built a brilliant team out of relative unknowns, that deserves some recognition.

Does anyone have, or know where I can get, footage of Mark Hughes' goal v Spain at, iirc, Ninian Park in 1984? Ity was a scissors kick from about 20 yards and for the life of me I cannot find it anywhere.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Re- The Greatest Teams .

Where is the Milan team of 92-94 ?
3 consecutive Serie A , including one unbeaten season ; and rounding it off with a CL Final 4-0 thrashing of a Barca team , who are 8th on this list .

Teams that should not be on the list include 16th Denmark '86 , they may have thrashed Uruguay but they were found out by Spain .
18th Liverpool '77 ; the Liverpool team of '79 was far better , setting a record points total of 68 , which would be 98 under a 3 points for a win rule . For that matter the '88 team who only lost 2 League games all year , and but for 2 poor ref's decisions would have won the FA Cup as well .
20th Man Utd , yes they won the Treble , but they only got 79 points , and were lucky in the CL Final . There have been plenty of better Man Utd teams ; '94 , '01 , Busby Babes , Best /Charlton / Law .

As I have already mentioned in this thread, the Milan teams of the early 90's and the Real sides of the early 2000's are the greatest club sides I have ever seen.

They were able to play an attacking, technical football that were streets ahead of any of their contemporaries in Europe. In the case of Milan, they practically revolutionised the game, giving it an ultra modern edge that clubs are still trying to emulate, from Man Utd to Barcelona,, Lippi's teams and many others in the last decade. But their standard has at best only been briefly matched by others, never surpassed.

As a dane, it is obvius that I agree to the 1986 team being put on that list, but I can understand if alot of you, especially those of you who weren't around, would disagree with the boards decision to place them there.

But you need to look at what they stood for, I meen, they managed to outplay the arguebly best team in the world back then, West Germany, and they completely demolished the south american champions, Uruguay.

Furthermore, I believe the Denmark-Sweden game of june 2007 should have been included.

You don't have two nations in the world which compete more than Denmark and Sweden, we've fought countless wars, played countless football games, and celebrated countless of one anothers triumphs.

And that game just had it all, the swedes thrashed us with brilliant football, but we game back with some excellent hard work and team spirit, before it was all brought to an end by a terrible incident.

In my opinion, you'd never see that much passion in a national team game, atleast not in Europe

Now, for a normal top side, that would have been fine, but for a world cup debut'er, it was amazing.

Furthermore, they stood as a contrast to the generally boring game featured in that world cup, with relatively dull sides like Belgium, France, Germany and Mexico going quite far in the tournament.

My reaction is that by and large World Soccer make some good choices but once again we have very little going back before the War Years.

No mention of teams from the 1930's or Preston's Invincibles or Sunderland's Team of all the talents. Outfits that defined football in their time.

In time we'll have teams, goals etc. based on Sky Television's interpretation of events and one of my surprises is that no one has put forward a Wayne Rooney goal from last week as being the greatest ever - Sky usually do.

How could the Arsenal team of that era even be considered when it didnt even win The European Cup?

Maybe we should look at some Copa Libertadores winners and widen our horizons before we put forward teams who after all have stifled competition and in effect beat teams of nobodies ie take away the top 4 in England over the last decade and there is nothing left.

There are so many great teams of the past that its to hard to say who is the greatest team ever but I think that this year were possibly seeing the future greatest team ever in man united. Ronaldo is going to be best player in world soon, he is only 22 so whats he going to be like in 5 or 6 years. best ever, potential is there. they have rooney who is the future of english football, add in tevez, vidic (best centre half in europe by a mile), nani (another ronaldo in the making) anderson who is going to be a brazil international for years to come, If anyone knows how to turn these boys into worlds best its sir alex.

My greatest player has to be zidane or Ronaldo(brazilian one) i am absolutely gutted he is injured again. Kaka is something else aswell, he gets the ball and only way he goes is forward he is so direct, just runs straight at the defence, love that. only ronaldo and messi are up there with him just now.

I disagree about Man u.Look at Barcelona in 2005/06 season they had Ronaldinho,Messi,Eto'o with Puyol the best defender in europe. with Inestia, and Xavi along with Deco people were saying they would domiate europe. but it has not happend. Also lets calm down about Man u.What top top teams have they knocked out in the last few seasons in ucl.No one.

I love it that people can say: "Champions League Quarter-Final. Not a big game. Champions League Semi-Final. Big game. Ronaldo didn't perform".

I suppose if this year Ronaldo scores one & sets up a couple more as Man. U. kick out Barcelona in the semis but then doesn't perform as well in the final that will be yet more evidence to support this theory. Similar story if this year Roma knock out United in the quarters - because Ronaldo fails to single-handedly lift United's performance -even though last year's equivalent fixture obviously wasn't a big game - because Ronaldo did pretty well in it...
