Lescott gets England call
Joleon Lescott has quite rightly been called up for the England squad for the upcoming European Championship Qualifiers against Israel and Russia. However, his call-up was only forthcoming as Sol Campbell was sent home with his zimmer frame . It is also rumoured Steve McClaren will be drafting in either Jeffery, George, Zippy or Bungle to replace Emile Heskey and "calamity" James .

well why are the teams split into 8 groups of five ties?when the group stage is eight groups of five teams?is it seeded?etc..do you have the answers???
Yes there is seeding. And yes there is country protection.
Why exactly the teams are split into 8 groups for the R1 draw isn't totally clear - though it is at least partly to ensure the draw itself is straightforward to conduct. So the groups of 10 (of which 5 are seeded & 5 unseeded) don't include any teams from the same country.
How UEFA forms the groups isn't totally clear - even to "expert analysts". This link gives you the table of how UEFA puts teams in groups initially but how exactly they make changes forced by country protection and why they make some changes that aren't obviously necessary are the subject of much discussion

Rhys Jones 1995 - 2007
Rhys Jones was laid to rest this afternoon after thousands gathered at Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral, before the little fanatical Evertonian was taken away for a private burial. I was in attendance on what was a very emotional day on Merseyside. It was nice to see so many football shirts from clubs throughout the country as all came together as one to celebrate the life of Rhys, a young lad, the victim of what society as to offer in this day and age. The youngster will now be playing football with Dixie Dean, Brian Labone and Alan Ball amongst other greats. God Bless little one.

Howard set to miss Manchester United game "AGAIN"
Something smells in the Merseyside air this morning and this has nothing to do with travelling past Anfield. Tim Howard has reportedly dislocated his finger playing for USA and the match he will now most likely miss is ...... you guessed it! MANCHESTER UNITED. Howard last season was exluded from playing against the Red Devils at Goodison, despite his move by then being permanent. In that particular game, a clanger by stand-in keeper Iain Turner ultimately turned the game in United's favour when Everton were 2-0 up and in complete control of the game. Sorry, but after the previous occasion the two clubs met, with Howard being being wrongly refused to play followed by this apparent injury, i cant help feeling cynical over this and believe something reaaaallllly strange is going on.

Macc Attack
Maybe this belongs to the International thread but Macca has been at it again. James McFadden that is, scoring another superb goal for Scotland in a 1-0 victory in France ..... "YES... FRANCE". AJ and the Yak will have to keep on their toes because Faddy is knocking on the door for a starting place, mind you, he is more than capable of playing out wide. Well done to Macca and to Scotland.
