What a shambles we were for most of that game. I felt really sorry for Kharkiv because there was one team playing foootball last night and it wasn't Everton.
I couldn't understand Moyes selection. Osman and Jagielka in midfield and yet Carsley was left on the bench? Why play Stubbs when you could play Lescott and have Baines at left back? Moyes was lucky to get away with this.
Having said that, it was a really exciting game and despite spending much of it slating our players, I enjoyed the win more than any since the last derby win.

magnificent result even though we should have been dead and buried by half time.howard made some great saves to keep us in it.i was surprised with the line up but i guess carsley didnt play as moyes was doing his usual got to score quickly as possible routine but we were completely over run in midfield in the first half.i guess stubbs was picked as the game is slower in europe but he was found out a number of times.his experience helped aswell.somehow we got through and i look forward to the draw with some big names waiting in the wings what about a villareal rematch or bayern at home!

Lets not dwell too long on the performances in both legs against very underestimated opponents. Villarreal were underestimated when the blues fell foul to them two years ago, and locally the fans were mocked for the cup exit by rival fans. We all know how well the Spanish side done in Europe that season. Ok, Metalist Kharkiv may not be as good as Villarreal but still, the Ukrainian side are not a bad little side. Seeing that Everton are in a learning curve when it comes to gaining experience in European competitions, scoring three second half goals in a tricky tie whilst not being at their best, was an achievement in itself.
What is a worry is Yakubu and the huge fee the club spent on him. The expensive acquisition has twice been outshone in the two Kharkiv meetings by a player who has risen through the healthy youth structure at the club, the player in question being Victor Anichebe. This is alarming, more so that James Vaughan is even better than Anichebe although both are totally different players entirely. Yakubu looks static, cant hold the ball up and his first touch is woeful, on top of this he already appears to be a bit of a sulk.
Excluding the negativities and solely looking at the positive issues, Everton now have secured the opportunity to gain valuable experience in Europe more on a long term period rather than a two legged knock-out system. Whether we are successful or not, the experience can only be beneficial to the toffees. If the domestic league form dips, then so be it but a club with Everton's stature needs to get accustomed with these such scenarios as forward thinking is the only way progression can be achieved.

Johnson Ankle Op
Andrew Johnson will tomorrow undergo an ankle operation that will sideline the forward for up to a month despite the England man netting his first goal of the season. David Moyes revealed after the Newcastle game that it was not a fresh injury but a problem Johnson has suffered for a while. Obviously Johnson will not be involved for England's Euro qualifiers and will most certainly miss the Merseyside derby at Goodison.

exciting times for the blueboys.what do you think of the draw?we need to win our home games.if we do we should progress!should beat larissa at home, get a point at nurnberg, zenit might be a bit tougher and az are quite inconsistent but probably the toughest match especially away!i just hope our league form dosent suffer as we have a lot of games coming up including luton.such as losing at newcastle!

Mixed emotoions on the draw really, it could have been kinder but on the other it could have been much more difficult. The home games against Larissa and Zenit are key and we all saw what Larissa done to Blackburn so they should not be underestimated. Hopefully Cahill, Vaughan, and Gravesen will be at full fitness come these games to improve the sides strength in depth. Exciting times ahead as you said.

I think we can win our two home games to qualify with 6 points.
Zenit aren't bad, if we played them away i reckon we'd struggle, but at our home we will teach them a lesson.
Larissa, potiental bannana skin in the first game, but i think we will win, just with a bag full of nerves.
Games away, tough, and not expected to win, so could sneak a draw with AZ, sneak a win against a nervous Nurnburg?
Hope to qualify, think we can with three teams to progress and to get a UEFA Cup final against Champions League strugglers Liverpool!!

That's my dream too.
AZ Alkmaar looks a tricky game. They completely outplayed Newcastle in the knockout stages last season and came very close to winning the Dutch league. I have to say that the prospect of a pre-christmas trip to Amsterdam, taking in this game is very tempting.
