I have now taken it upon myself to start my own competition soley involving the English Premiership. Anyone caring to join in, then feel free to do so as every one is more than welcome. How i will start this off is by giving my own predictions on the opening week of the season. I will give my predictions over in a couple of days but in the meantime, can anyone give me feedback if they are willing to enter this comp. To save time in typing out the fixtures i post, it is recommended that participants paste then copy the list of games then enter the predictions. All entries must be in at least 15 minutes before the first game of that given fixture list. I look forward to hearing your responses.
There is also no reason why this type of competition cannot be started on this forum featuring South American League's and indeed any well established League's globally. It is a bit of an interest to pit each others wits against each other, and adds a fun factor to an already serious forum at times. Variety is the spice of life as they say.
Rules and Points system Simply, the rules and points system will be as follows. For a correct prediction of a winner of a single game, say for example for instance Everton to beat Wigan, you will gain 1 point. To predict the correct scoreline, say 3-1 to Everton v Wigan, you will gain an extra two points. Predicting an away win will automatically gain you two points. To predict a draw will earn 3 points, but to predict the actual scoreline of that draw will win you an extra two points as with all correct scoreline predictions.
Matches are listed by the earliest kick off times and earliest date.
Points System in brief Correct prediction for an Home win = 1 point. Correct prediction for an Away win = 2 points. Correct prediction for a Draw = 3 points. Correct scorline prediction = 2 points added extra bonus.
Fixtures and Predictions

Sorry to be fussy Stephen but terrible scoring system...
Why should predicting a draw be more valuable than predicting a win? And why should predicting that Chelsea might just manage to win at Pride Park be worth three times as much as correctly assessing that Aston Villa will just edge a thriller at Villa Park against Spurs?
And correct scores are to a large extent "luck". If Man U. are tonking someone by three or four for example it's pretty random whether they go & get another one or sit back, relax a bit too much & allow the other team to score.
What's wrong with two points for a correct prediction (whether a home win, draw or away win) & one bonus point for each correct score?

I appreciate your feedback badgerboy but i feel the points system is reasonable. In my defence of giving 3 points for draw is quite simple. On a football coupon, if you had £1 on three homes you would be very lucky to get odds of 9/1, Three aways would be something around 16/1 whereas putting 3 draws on usually bring odds around the 32/1 scale. This is clear evidence that it is more difficult predicting draws than Home's or Away's, so it then begs the question, why not gain more points predicting the draws.
We done a similar points system in my work place a couple of years ago that are quite similar to your idea's and to an extent it worked in the way that there was a monthly prize fund as there was always a couple in with a chance in the final fourth week. However, there would obviously be no prize fund in my competition and with my proposed scoring system, it would give individuals the opportunity to score big weekly scores to establish a healthy lead, then in turn anyone struggling behind the frontrunners would choose predictions more thoroughly to enable them to catch up.

So far, i would like to say a huge thank you to righteous1, RichieC and rotku for entering the competition.
All are welcome to enter the competition even during the season as there is to be player of the month awards, obviously to the player who gains the most points in the given month. This option will allow new forum members to join in.
Just one final note. If for some reason or another, anyone of us can not make predictions at a weekend or midweek, your previous weeks predictions would just follow on in identical sequence so at least we would gain the opportunity to gain the odd point or three or just fluke a massive points total.
Good luck all.

Barclays Premier League Results
Sat Aug 11 - Sunderland v Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Sat Aug 11 - Bolton Wanderers v Newcastle United 1-3 Sat Aug 11 - Derby County v Portsmouth 2-2 Sat Aug 11 - Everton v Wigan Athletic 2-1 Sat Aug 11 - Middlesbrough v Blackburn Rovers 1-2 Sat Aug 11 - West Ham United v Manchester City 0-2 Sat Aug 11 - Aston Villa v Liverpool 1-2 Sun Aug 12 - Arsenal v Fulham 2-1 Sun Aug 12 - Chelsea v Birmingham City 3-2 Sun Aug 12 - Manchester United v Reading 0-0
Righteous1 is our early leader with a series of fine predictions, most notably with a predicted a 2-2 draw (Derby v Portsmouth) which notched up 5 points alone for Righteous. Rotku and steve31 are hanging on to his coat-tails with a respectable 8 points apiece followed closely behind with 7 points each for Sub and RichieC. Me and Badgerboy will be dissapointed with 6 and 5 points respectively.
Leaderboard
1 - Righteous1, 11 points. 2 - Rotku, 8 points. 2 - Steve31, 8 points. 3 - RichieC, 7 points. 3 - Sub, 7 points. 4 - Stephen, 6 points. 5 - Badgerboy, 5 points.

It's early days yet. For now badgerboy is more disappointed with your maths.
I believe you may have forgotten the vital two points I obtained by correctly predicting the score at Goodison. So my points should be an unspectacular 7 - still better than 5 though....
Edit: I would say you've just forgotten (or abolished?) correct score points entirely - as you haven't given yourself any either. But then I think righteous1 has either 9 pts (no correct score points) or 13 (points for Derby-Portsmouth & A. Villa-Liverpool).
Edit 2 - Badgerboy's "alternative guide" to the scores on the doors:
righteous1 13 Steve31 12 Rotku 10 Richie 9 Stephen 8 badgerboy 7 subhankar mondal 7
I'm off the bottom on alphabetic order!
Seriously though I would suggest people check their own scores as well. I'm just as likely to be wrong as Stephen - well nearly

soz badgerboy, i have your score written down as you gaining 7 points, unfortunately i have somehow posted on the forum that you only have 5. My maths are ok, its my final input that appears to be lacking .
Good idea also mate, that everyone should individualy check their own scores.
Once again, i appologies for my crass error.
