Bolton Wanderers
Final position 16th (37 pts)
-------------------Jaaskelainan------------ ---Steinsson---O'Brien(A)---Cahill---Gardner--- ---------------Campo(Guthrie)---------McCann----------- ------Diouf----------Nolan------Taylor-------------- ----------------------Davies--------------------------
Other key players: Hunt (RB), Meite (CB), J. O'Brien (RM), Samuel (LB), Al-Habsi (GK), Speed (until Jan), Anelka (until Jan).
Bolton - unsurprisingly for a team in trouble who changed managers during the season - also changed a lot in January. Gretar Steinsson, Matt Taylor and Gary Cahill were all important signings in the window who became regulars in the second part of the season.
I heard a few people singing the praises of Steinsson - who adapted quickly to the Premier League. I also heard good things of Al-Habsi - who was an able stand in for Jaaskelainan at the business end of the season.
Overall Bolton followed the trend that clubs who part company with a long standing manager often struggle. Unlike Charlton the previous season though, they survived - & will hope to improve next season.
For the future:
Bolton finished bottom of their reserve league and 9th of 10 in their academy section. Their official site is also notable for a complete lack of information about their reserve & youth players.
Temitope Obadeyi - English youngster who apparently created some excitement amongst those who follow the Bolton youth team when he was signed from Coventry City at the start of the 06-07 season. Finished joint top scorer for the reserves - but that was with two goals - so the jury is still out.
