World Soccer: The Big Issue, June 2008: Euro 2008

Who will be crowned European Champions of 2008?, Who will be the dark horses and who will fail miserably are all questions we will soon no the answers to. Surely Spain will go close this time around after so many disappointing performances in major tournaments, as to will the obvious nations in Germany, Italy and maybe France. The Czech Republic however may just be the surprise package to go close. Holland are my preference for this tournament, however they have it all to do in what i would say is the "group of death" that also includes France and Italy. If the Dutch were to negotiate there way to the quarter-finals, they would then have a real chance. Turkey, if they get off to a good start, would make one or two sit up and notice as to would Russia and Poland. As for the hosts Switzerland and Austria, i just can not envisage any progress out of the group stages. My tip wont come has no surprise, that being Germany to become Euro Champions, the sole reason being the are the Germans, and you should never underestimate them. All in all, hopefully football will be the winner come 29 June. Enjoy.
