Eric Abidal believes that Franck Ribery would be a perfect signing for Barcelona should he join them from Bayern Munich this summer.

The winger is widely expected to leave Germany in the summer transfer window with either Real Madrid or Barcelona as his likely destination, although Manchester United have also been linked with the player.

Abidal, who plays alongside Ribery at the international level for France, admitted that his style would suit the way Barca play.

“Franck is a friend of mine. His game is well suited to that of Barcelona’s. He passes a lot and is always going forward towards the goal,” he told Europe 1.

Asked about his own future, Abidal insisted he was happy in Catalonia and wants to stay.

“I do not know if anyone wants me to leave but I am very happy here and I do not want go,” he added.

“Personally, I am happy. This season I have been in a good team and it has been big.”

Abidal also spoke about next week’s Champions League final against Manchester United – a game from which he is suspended after being sent-off in the semi-final with Chelsea.

“It will be necessary to keep a close eye on Wayne Rooney. When he is in form, Manchester [United] are in form. We have the whole of Catalonia and Spain behind us, it will be a beautiful game and I hope that we win it,” he said.

Abidal had plenty of praise for the Barcelona boss, Pep Guardiola, who is on the verge of securing an historic treble during his first season in charge.

“He has taken his chance well. He set out his stall early on, he is rigid, knows football and knew that he had to find the balance between attack and defence,” he explained.
