AZ Alkmaar want Afonso Alves to be banned from playing for Middlesbrough for the rest of the season.
Alves became Middlesbrough’s record signing when he joined the Premiership club on Thursday in a deal worth £12m. The Dutch club intend to appeal to Fifa over a pre-contract agreement they claim the striker signed.
“He really has a chance of getting banned from playing for the rest of the season,” Scheringa told De Telegraaf.
“We have a water-tight contract with him.”
The Dutch FA, who signed off the transfer to Middlesbrough, have already ruled the agreement between the player and AZ invalid because the club have not met certain criteria.
