Rangers defender Lorenzo Amoruso has been hit with a four game ban following a spitting incident during Rangers’ Tennant’s Scottish cup-tie against Ayr United in February.

Amoruso was found guilty of spitting at Ayr United striker James O’Grady after BBC cameras caught the incident on tape.

The Italian defender denied that he spat on O’Grady deliberately but a Scottish Football Association review panel found that Amoruso had done it deliberately.

Rangers boss Alex McLeish was disappointed by the decision but Rangers have decided not to appeal against the decision.

“We hoped that the player’s version of events would be accepted,” he said.

“It’s a major blow to lose Lorenzo at this stage of the season.”

Amoruso’s place is now up for grabs, and in his absence a chance could be given to Bob Malcolm, Bert Konterman or Dan Eggen.
