Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has revealed Petr Cech sustained a calf injury in the defeat to Inter, but he is not sure how long he will be out for.
The goalkeeper collapsed midway through the second half of the Champions League tie at San Siro and had to be stretchered off.
Initial reports suggested the shot-stopper had suffered a serious knee injury, which would have meant a long lay-off, but Ancelotti refused to rule out the prospect of Cech making a swift recovery.
“We don’t know now,” said Ancelotti. “We have to wait some days.
“We have to do a check on his calf. We will take a decision and we will know how long he has to stay out.”
As for whether Cech could feature against Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday, Ancelotti added: “I don’t know, we don’t know, we have to wait.”
Cech was replaced by Portuguese veteran Henrique Hilario. The former Porto player, 34, is expected to become first choice with Cech absent but the Blues could also call on former England Under-20 keeper Ross Turnbull.
