Valencia midfielder Miguel Angel Angulo has apologised for his behaviour during last night’s ill-tempered Champions League match against Werder Bremen.

The Argentine was set off for an violent lunge on Paraguayan striker Nelson Valdez, and he also seemed to spit at Werder midfielder Tim Borowski as he walked off.

UEFA is investigating both incidents.

“I saw the replay when I got home and the truth is I made a mistake. Perhaps I lost my temper,” Marca quoted Angulo saying.

“I would like to apologise for my reaction to the players of Werder Bremen, to the fans and to (my) club,” he added.

Angulo said he hoped UEFAwould take the visitors behaviour into consideration when deciding his punishment.

“They were not sporting. They were faking all the time and tried to stop the game to leave us without any options. They started what happened.”
