Arsenal duo Jose Reyes and Freddie Ljungberg, who were expected to miss Tuesday’s Champions League encounter with Chelsea through injury, may be fit to play after all.

Reyes was injured in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester United and coach Arsene Wenger initially ruled the Spaniard out for three weeks, while Ljungberg was also expected to miss the game after breaking a bone in his hand.

However, Wenger confirmed that both took part in training today and may be available for selection against Chelsea.

“They are in the squad, but no decision has been made yet,’ said Wenger. ‘They trained so we will see how they react.

“”It is encouraging because the doctor told me after the game on Saturday that Reyes had done his knee ligaments.

“Ljungberg has two broken bones in his hand, but in training he seemed quite okay and we’ll see how he is on Tuesday morning.”

“We will have to see the evolution of the injury to see if he needs surgery.

“It does not stop him from moving or playing. He can play with an anaesthetic in his hand but we will monitor him in training on Tuesday.”

Of Reyes, Wenger said: “It was the tackle on his knee from Scholes that provoked the pain. He has a swollen ankle as well.”
