Atletico Madrid have denied reports claiming that they have reached agreement with Osasuna coach Javier Aguirre.

Los Rojiblancos look like missing out on European qualification yet again this season despite more heavy investment last summer.

Atletico are on their second coach this season following the dismissal of Argentinian Carlos Bianchi and his replacement in December by Pepe Murcia.

Murcia toook over on a caretaker basis, but there has been speculation that Aguirre is the man they would like to see take over permanently.

The Mexican coach has impressed with Osasuna this season, leading the Navarra-based outfit to fourth in La Liga and a chance of UEFA Champions League qualification.

However, Atletico insist that nothing will be decided until the season is over.

“The most important thing for us right now is the game against Alaves,” stated president Enrique Cerezo.

“We have already said that we will deal with the matter of the manager and the players after May 18.

“There is absolutely nothing new.”
