Reports in Spain claim that Atletico Madrid have turned down an offer of €36 million plus Diego Forlan from Manchester United for teenage striker Fernando Torres.
Catalan newspaper El Mundo DeportivoÊclaims the bid was submitted by the Premiership champions ‘a few days ago’ but was turned down by the Spanish side.
Torres, already a full international with three caps to his name, is regarded as the outstanding young player in Spanish football and is enjoying a good season. He has already scored 13 goals for Atletico this season and has been instrumenal in their push for a place in Europe.
Torres recently signed a new long-term contract at El Vicente Calderon which the club hope will keep him there until 2008.
