Atletico Madrid have confirmed that they have rejected approaches from both Manchester United and Chelsea for highly-rated striker Fernando Torres.

The 19-year-old hit-man is regarded as one of the future stars of European football, and several clubs in England are known to have been monitoring his progress.

However, Atletico claim that Torres is not for sale.

“Everyone is in love with Torres,” stated Atletico’s director of sport Toni Munoz.

“A couple of years ago in the European Under-19 championship in Norway Arsenal, Manchester (United) and Chelsea were all there.

“He gave the impression to them that he was a Premier League player, but we have already said no to Chelsea and Manchester, that he is not for sale.”

“At this moment the whole economic matter is under control and the club wants to grow,” he added.

“It has to do that by getting into the European places and by buying players that allow you to compete for the top four places every year.”
