Australia have added six new players to a revised 20-man squad for its two Confederations Cup qualifiers against the Solomon Islands after injuries meant five players could not travel.

The newcomers are forwards Archie Thompson (Lierse), Ante Milicic (Pahang) and Max Vieri (Ternana), plus defenders Steve Laybutt (Gent), Jon McKain (National Bucharest) and Luke Wilkshire (Bristol City).

They replace the injured Middlesbrough striker Mark Viduka, Craig Moore of Rangers and midfielders Marco Bresciano of Parma, Everton’s Tim Cahill and Leicester City’s Danny Tiatto.

After Saturday’s match in Honiara the two sides meet October 12 in Sydney, with the winner of the series qualifying for next year’s Confederations Cup in Germany.
