German club Hoffenheim are reportedly set to sign Liverpool winger Ryan Babel for a fee of €7 million, according to Bild.

The German newspaper claims that Babel is undergoing a medical at the club and quoted the club’s owner, billionaire Dietmar Hopp, as saying that Hoffenheim’s injury crisis up front had convinced them to make a move.

“We needed a striker because of the imminent departure of Demba Ba and the injury to Chinedu Obasi. Babel was the attacker we really wanted and sporting director Tanner is convinced he’s the right man for us,” he said.

However, there has been no official confirmation from Hoffenheim or Liverpool.

Hoffenheim director of football Ernst Tanner said the move was anything but completed.

“Nothing is on the safe side yet,” Tanner told Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung. “There are still details to be discussed.

“Right now we are far away from achieving an agreement.”
