Bahrain’s football federation says coach Josef Hickersberger has quit just weeks before the team is due to participate in the Gulf Cup.
The 62-year-old Austrian had only been in the job for four months. He succeeded Milan Macala, who left after Bahrain lost to New Zealand in a World Cup qualifying play-off last November.
Hickersberger also coached Bahrain in 1996 and led Al Wahda to the United Arab Emirates league title last season.
Sheik Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, the vice president of the Bahrain Football Federation, says he hopes to have a new coach hired in the next 10 days.
