Fabien Barthez says he wants to continue his playing career, despite walking out on Nantes at the weekend.

The World Cup and European Championship winner left the club Nantes after a coming to blows with a group of supporters following Nantes’ defeat to Rennes at the weekend.

However, undeterred by the incident, Barthez says he has no intention of retiring from the game.

“I don’t think that my career is over,” Barthez told France Info. “I wish to play two or three more seasons.

“I want to pay football back for what it gave me.

“But playing for the sake of it doesn’t interest me, it would be useless. I want to be part of a real and ambitious project.”

Barthez has not ruled out playing in France, as he added: “It could be in Ligue 1, in spite of what happened at Nantes.”
