FIFA have rejected Marseille’s appeal to sign Fabien Barthez from Manchester United outside of the transfer window.

A special commission decided that Marseille would have to wait until the transfer window opens in January before signing the French international keeper.

Marseille were hoping the deal would go through as Barthez is curently deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. However, the world governing body have refused to compromise their transfer policy which prevents players moving outside of the allotted transfer windows.
