Former Argentina coach Alfio Basile has been named as new Boca Juniors coach.

Basile replaces Jorge Benitez, who was sacked earlier this month for spitting at Mexican player Audolfo Bautista during a Copa Libertadores quarter-final with Chivas Guadalajara.

“I have a group of very strong players who can fight on every level,” said Basile.

Basile coached Argentina from 1991 to 1994, winning the Copa America twice, and leading the side to the quarter finals of the World Cup in the United States in 1994.
