Bayern Munich have expressed an interest in signing Fiorentina striker Luca Toni.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Bayern’s chief executive, has confirmed that the Bundesliga outfit are monitoring the form of the 29-year-old Italian international.

Toni offered a reminder of his striking prowess by scoring both goals in Italy’s 2-0 win over Scotland in Wednesday’s Euro 2008 qualifier.

“I like Toni a lot,” Rummenigge told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I consider him to be a really useful player, he could do really good things at Bayern.

“Sure, many people want him and this complicates the operation, but at the end the decision is up to the player and maybe he wants to try an experience abroad.

“I don’t like to talk a lot about our strategies, but the striker attracts us.”

Toni is under contract at Fiorentina until 2009 and has admitted he would like to see out his career with the Viola.
