Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham has not recovered from a calf injury and has been omitted from the squad to face Real Betis on Saturday.

Beckham was substitutedduring Real’s 3-1 defeat by Deportivo Coruna on Wednesday, and did not train with the rest of the squad on Thursday or Friday.

Beckham joins a growing casualty list for a Real side already missing Brazilians Ronaldo and Julio Baptista, Danish midfielder Thomas Gravesen and French playmaker Zinedine Zidane.

“Beckham started in La Coruna carrying a slight injury and in the second half it put him off his game. He wasn’t playing well so I took him off,” Luxemburgo told a news conference on Friday.

“We know we will have good runs and bad runs with injuries but we have to continue working hard regardless.

“We may have lost quality in midfield but maybe we will be more competitive.”
