Real Madrid are confident that David Beckham will be fit to take on Real Betis next weekend.

The England captain suffered a hairline fracture to a rib during his country’s 2-0 triumph over Wales on Saturday, and there were fears that he could be out of action for up to six weeks.

However, Real club doctor Alfonso del Corral has allayed fears of a lengthy lay-off.

“This type of injury is mainly painful and the time depends much on the capacity of the player to surpass these ailments,” said del Corral.

“It could be a question of just days.”
