Belgian striker dies in car crash

Belgian striker Francois Sterchele has been killed in a car crash.



Police say the 26-year-old Sterchele died early Thursday morning after he lost control of his Porsche and hit a tree near the city of Antwerp.

Police say no other cars were involved in the accident.

The leading scorer in the Belgian top flight with Germinal Beerschot in the 2006-2007 season, Sterchele was also leading scorer for Club Brugge this term with 11 goals.

Sterchele made his internationl debut against Portugal in March 2007.
