Pablo Aimar’s agent has confirmed that Lazio are interested in signing the player, but Benfica have insisted they do not wish to sell the Argentinian.
Aimar has made an excellent start to the season with Benfica, earning a recall to the Argentina national team under Diego Maradona.
However, his performances have not gone unnoticed and Lazio are thought to be interested in making a move for him in January.
“I have been contacted by (Lazio president) Claudio Lotito and he asked me about Aimar,” the player’s representative Gustavo Mascardi told the Italian press.
“I have a meeting with him in November to talk about it.”
Benfica have reacted to the speculation by insisting they have no plans to sell Aimar.
“Right now Aimar is a key man in our scheme of work and it is impossible to think of a sale in January,” said Benfica sport director Rui Costa.
