Portuguese champions Benfica have unveiled a new technological training room after years of development.

The simulator will be used to analyse and improve player reaction times, while also collecting data which will help prevent injury and aid recovery time.

The 360s system isn’t the first of its kind to be used by a major European side: German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund revealed their innovative ‘Footbonaut’ system two years ago which at the time was the height of technical sophistication.

Dortmund’s fellow Bundesliga side Hoffenheim also launched the same system earlier this year.

Benfica’s software can record data such as passed in a game, direction of a pass, position of the ball – all of which can be recreated in the simulator.
