Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has confirmed they are in talks with Bolton about signing Stelios Giannakopoulos.

He said: “Our chief executive Rick Parry is talking with their Chairman about the possibility of a deal.

“I also spoke to Sam Allardyce about the player last night because we need to know if he’d be available.

“At this moment Stelios is one possibility for us. We are working hard to strengthen the squad before the deadline.”

Bolton boss Sam Allardyce is hopeful of keeping hold of the right-sided midfielder, but with 12 months left on his contract Stelios would be able to leave on a free transfer next summer and Bolton may prefer to cash in now.
