Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has revealed that he is looking to bring in a new striker following the injury to summer recruit Djibril Cisse.

The French striker sustained a broken leg against Blackburn Rovers and Benitez admits he needs more options in an attack already weakened by the summer sale of Michael Owen to Real Madrid.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s vital Champions League trip to Deportivo La Coruna on Wednesday night, Benitez said: “Maybe on this trip we will be able to discuss it,” he said of the transfer situation.

“I believe we will be looking for someone cheap and good.

“We are not scouting just one player, we are scouting the whole market.

“Then we will see who is available in January.”

Benitez admitted that he hoped that Cisse would still be to play again this season.

“I spoke to him yesterday and he is comfortable,” added the Reds boss.

“He has got a positive attitude and is already talking of being out six months and wanting to return in the final month of the season.”
