Arsenal are set to be without striker Nicklas Bendtner for several weeks as he is expected to undergo surgery on a groin injury.

Bendtner, who limped off during Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Tottenham on October 31, told Ekstra Bladet: “I will have tests on Tuesday and it is likely I will have surgery on Wednesday.”

Bendtner was speaking at the Danish football awards for 2009 as he was named the country’s footballer of the year, which he said was a “great honour”.

“I want to thank all those fans who voted for me,” he said. “I would also like to thank my parents who have believed in me all the time, and I wish to thank my coaches and my team-mates who made this possible for me.”

Bentner also reiterated his desire to make a major impact both with Arsenal and Denmark.

“I want to be the leading scorer in the Premier League, I dream of scoring the most goals at the World Cup and within five years I want to be one of the best strikers in the world,” he said.
