Daniel Bertoni, a member of Argentina’s 1978-World Cup winning team, will become the next Independiente coach following the death of Jose “Pato” Pastoriza.

Bertoni, who scored for Argentina in their 3-1 win over Holland in the 1978 World Cup final in Buenos Aires, was expected to be confirmed in the job on Tuesday.

Pastoriza died suddenly of a heart attack last week.

Bertoni played for Independiente in the 1970’s, helping them win the World Club Cup in 1973 before leaving for Europe where he played for Fiorentina, Sevilla, Napoli and Avellino.
