Real Betis have given their backing to Javier Irureta after Luis Fernandez was linked with the coach’s job.

Irureta took over at Betis in the summer, but his team are languishing in 18th place in the table with just one win in 12 games. There has been speculation in Spain that the club are lining up a replacement, but chairman Pepe Leon has offered his support to Irureta.

“There is nothing to ratify because we already have a coach,” stated Leon after a board meeting.

“At the moment Irureta is continuing with us and we are confident we will get out of this situation.”

Fernandez, who has also been linked with the Racing Santander and Athletic Bilbao jobs this season, is available after leaving Beitar Jerusalem.
