Reports indicate that Birmingham City may be lining up a bid for Austrian starlet Paul Schamer, who currently plays in his homeland for Brann.

The 25-year-old – who is equally comfortable in a central defensive or central midfield role – has been watched several times by Blues boss Steve Bruce, who is now expected to follow up his initial interest in the player with a firm bid once the transfer window re-opens in January.

According to the player’s agent, Knut Kriistiansen, Schamer would be willing to move to the midlands, provided the clubs could agree a fee.

“I’ve told him (Schamer) that Birmingham are interested”, he said.

“But now its up to Birmingham. I have told them that, if they want to sign Paul, they should speak to Brann.
