Bolton boss Gary Megson has admitted defeat on his quest to bring Eidur Gudjohnsen back to the club.

Megson has been on the lookout for a new striker following the departure earier this month of Nicolas Anelka to Chelsea.

Bolton enquired about bringing Barcelona ace Gudjohnsen back to England, but the forward has decided to stay at Camp Nou.

“We need a quality replacement for Nicolas Anelka and Eidur would have fitted the bill but unfortunately he’s at a huge football club and he wants to stay there,” said Megson.

“Maybe in the summer he would deem it the right time to join Bolton.

“I’ll be disappointed if we don’t bring in a forward but I won’t be worried.”
