Wes Brown has agreed a new deal with Manchester United that will keep him at the club until 2008.

The 25-year-old former England defender, whose career hit by a succession of injuries, had been tipped to leave the club following the breakdown last month of talks bewteen club and player.

United manager Alex Ferguson said: “Over the last few weeks there has been a great deal of uncertainty and that has been a worry.

“I couldn’t bear to lose him, I didn’t want to lose him. I am thrilled that Wes has decided to commit his future here.”

Brown said: “I’ve always wanted to stay at Manchester United. I’ve grown up here, I’ve developed my career here and I’m delighted to be staying.”
