Celtic defender Gary Caldwell has completed his transfer to Wigan.
The Scotland international, whose contract expires in the summer, has signed a four-and-a-half year deal with the Latics for an undisclosed fee.
Caldwell, 27, looked poised to join Middlesbrough on Monday and join up with former Celtic boss Gordon Strachan, along with midfielders Barry Robson and Willo Flood, plus striker Chris Killen.
However, Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is keen to bolster their porous defence and came in with an improved offer for Caldwell.
The Barclays Premier League outfit on Tuesday signed Ivory Coast defender Steven Gohouri until the end of the season following a successful trial after his departure from Borussia Monchengladbach in December.
