Former Spain coach Jose Antonio Camacho is to be apppointed the new coach of Benfica.

Camacho has agreed term with the Portuguese club’s general director, Antonio Simoes, after two days of talks inMadrid. He replaces Jesualdo Ferreira, who was sacked on Tuesday.

Camach, who resigned in the wake of Spain’s quarter-final exit at the World Cup in Korea and Japan, will take charge until the end of the season, with the option of a further 12 months.

to will take charge for the rest of this season with the option of staying another year. Camacho will be at the Estadio da Luz tomorrow when Benfica take on Braga in the Super Liga, although caretaker coach Fernando Chalana will pick the team.

Benfica opted for Camacho ahead of severall candidates, including another former coach of the Spanish national team, Javier Clemente.
