Artur Jorge has quit as coach of the Cameroon national team, state radio has reported.

The Portuguese coach has been in charge for 14 months, and it was unclear why he left.

“I wish Cameroon and its national team all the success it deserves in the future and I sincerely hope Cameroon will be the first African team to win a major title at world level,” Jorge said in a statement.

“Right now, we have to start looking for another coach to take care of the Indomitable Lions,” Cameroon football federation spokesman Martin Etongo said on Wednesday.

Cameroon qualified for the last four World Cups, but they failed to make this year’s finals and did not reach the semi finals of the African Cup of Nations held earlier this year.
